So you are in Tucson???? that would be a place me and my van were back in the 80's,,,,,,this is Saguaro park,,,,I would of been at the OK corral,,,,,met Geronimos great, great grandson selling pictures of himself along the road, went to that movie set in the fort.......and it was HOT,,,,,now theres a surprize,,,,

donivan65 wrote:Its good that you bring this up,,,,,4 systems,,,,,,and you would of had the 1st Edition,,,,,like I do, the Nova type,,,,,,,which is the only one that does not use the original hubs or axles,,,,,you take everything off, and use a Nova front rotor, bearings and all. The other 3 types, you install longer wheel studs and slip the rotor OVER the hub or axles,,,,,,,,
So I can use 77 Nova rotors and bearings on the 1st gen spindle, they just bolt on? Do I still need the offset caliper bracket for the front? What calipers are used with the Nova rotors?

You could,,,,IF,,,,you can get or make the 1st Edition/BZ/WildBill/Nova type front disk brake brackets........bolt the flat brackets on,,,,,slap the Nova rotor on, (you can use your old van bearings if you are cheap),,,,,,,install a Chevy Blazer caliper and brake hose,,,,,,and praise the lord you are converted,,,,,,they work on 2nd Gens also.......

They are made out of 3/8" steel,,,,,,,I have been working on making a back up set for my van since I AINT NEVER going back to drums,,,,,,there might be some sets of the Nova brackets around,,,,,,they would of been invented on VcVc around 2002,,,,,,and I think they are just hot rod brackets,,,,,,a couple of guys here like Scott were VERY VERY interested in finding or making these brackets,,,,,,,

I did measure the distance from the center of the axle to the outside of the caliper on the "Ebay Kit" it is 6-3/4" ,, it also measures a tad bit longer at the tips of the bracket 6-7/8" from center, ok ,, one more measurement,, the out ward face of the caliper protrudes past the face of the rotor (where the wheel bolts on) about 1/8". Just have to file or turn that ridge off the axle similar to what we have to do on the front hubs with M1s front disc set up.
On another note, Don, are those Nova rotors thicker than the firebird rear discs we are using on the M1? 1" on the birds.
Oh yeah , you have to pull the axles to get the backing plates off, good time to put new wheel seals in eh.

Well, back in the Early days, the kit came with a bunch of spacers to fill the hole and a longer bolt. But that is a famous piece in my book,,,,,,when M1Dadio got his van a few years ago, I was showing him my set up,,,,,and he surely did not like that spacer,,,,,,so I would say that is one thing that got him fired up on making new brackets so he would not have to deal with that Damn Spacer! Thats MY story and I am sticking to it!!!!!

Well you don't have a choice on the rotor,,,,,,the brackets were made to work with 1979-81 TransAm rear brake rotors. And the instructions say use the 3rd Gen Chevy van calipers,,,,,but the instructions say the Chevy Blazer calipers, like the ones used with the Nova brackets, might work. But anyone else used something different than the 3rd Gen Chevy Van calipers with their TransAm brackets????

On the front disc (M1's brackets), I used the 1985 K-5 calipers with 1982-83 Firebird brake hoses.
