the only way that it looks correct is if thecaliper, has about a 1/4 inch gap from bracket to to caliper then there is very little play with the pads. Is it good to reverse the calipers left to right so the bleeder is at the top instead of lower?

This photo hosting service is erratic at times,,,,,and the bleeders need to be at the top to let the air out,,,,,,regardless if they call them left or rights,,,,,,,,

Think I read 3/8" for the specs in the offset of the brackets? Just wondering what the history of the brackets is after M1 designed them, and how are they made or bent ? Might be running into some irregualrities? Im going to double check mine tomorrow for parrallel and offset.

those pads you have doo look like they are thin and that is consitant with the metalic pads. All that means is the caliper is already 1/3 the way down its travel. The point is you want the pads to be worn to the rivits before the caliper cones off the slide pins. It looks like you have more slide pin left then the thivkness of the pads and thats good. I think you have about 1/2" of pin travel left and those pads look to be only 1/4" thick. My callipers are not up tight to the bracket, they have about 1/8" clearance.

with the floating action and fat pads I am pretty close
I would like to find a hose that is usable for the caliper without drilling it. I drilled it but not everybody is privy to a machine shop. I used 81 g10 hoses 18 inch I was wondering what 75 g10 would be like? 75 Nova is not banjo.
So I chaseed diferent banjo bolts then wider copper washers, should start bleeding Monday cross my fingers

The Left and right thing on calipers applies to what ever application the caliper was ordered for so you end up with the bleader screw pointing up on that application.
I dosn't make a beans of difference otherwise.
YOu just be sure to put whatever caliper on the correct side of your van that makes the bleader screw at the top so you can gey the air out

So the problem could be the thickness of the pads,,,,and they come in various types like metallic, semi metallic, organic. But basically how thick should this pad sandwich be, (and that would depend on the different brands or type of pad thickness ), to center the caliper and have enough working surface on the caliper bolt.

OK let me say it this way:
Regardless of how much pad there might have been new, when the outside pad is worm to the rivits (metal on metal) the caliper will slide inboard. Even when the outer pad is worn out the caliper should still be on the pins.
So campair these, with the new outside pad pushed up against the rotor there should be more slide pin unused then there is pad thicknes. that way the pad will be well worn out before the caliper comes off the pins.
Yes there is difference in pad thicknesses between material make up and brands as well. I even once had pads that were too thick to install.

This is mine right now,,,,my sandwich is down to 2 1/8" ...There is plenty of wiggle room on that caliper bolt to allow for more pad wear,,,,,the guide and the bolt allow 1" of caliper movement.

Read the instructions; the calipers MUST NOT BIND. They must float without interfirence. there is specific instructions on how to fine tune the bracket and how to make certain the caliper is free to floating without too much play. Not doing this step will result in poor and low brake pedal if you manage to get them blead at all.
Vitally important.

DIGZ, thats looking about right, the pads you have look as thick as they come.
By looking at that picture and comparing it to mine, one might conclude that the K5 caliper is abouit an 1/8" wider then the nova caliper. But that would be the case only if the K5 rotor is much thicker then the nova rotor. I will check it out online.
OK! as it turns out, the 86 K5 rotors (or for that matter the 74 two wheel drive blzer front rotor) are a full 1/4" thicker then the Nova and 3rd gen van rotors. That dosn't nessesarily mean the calipers are 1/4" wider, someone will have to measure the two to know for sure. It had been sujested people could use the K5 calipers with these brackets because people allready had the calipers from the BZ brake kit like Donivan has.

Also did you guys make sure the spindle surface was cleaned of all rust and or anything the might keep the bracket from bolting right down flush? like the extra steering stop stud that might be sticking out?
I'm not so sure my brakets are 3/4" from the rotor, I have another opicture that says 5/16. I will go measure it again today.
That previous picture is from the prototype development and may be incorect.
