Scarebird brakes

I hate the feeling of going down a hill and having that what if feeling. Maybe be it's just being paranoid, but being a LA Firefighter, seen alot of stuff happen. Sometimes not so good.
Thanks for the pixs again and info. They really help someone like me who has a medium understanding and background on this stuff. I am always willing to tear it apart, and what a great feeling when u are finished, knowing u did it. I dont have any grinding tools yet. Removing the studs off the hub might be the hardest part for me. I am in Taiwan right now believe it or not. Coming back next week. Looks like i have a brake job to do.

you could have a garage or machine shop press out your wheel studs, or after you cut the studs off close to the drums the studs will then hammer out easy, be sure you check on this sit for all the right parts, after you get your scarebird brackets, everyone is very nice on here and are willing to help, you dont need to mesure what size axle you have any more, scarebird has drilled holes in the plates to fit eather axle size,

That's what i was thinking too, about the machine shop. You are right, there is some much information here. I read this site everyday. Thanks to people like you and the other i have made many upgrades.
When i get my stuff i will probably checking in with u guys.

do your self a favor and do NOT try to press out the wheel studs as you will bend the hub. they are "swedged" in place and a good machine shop should know how to do this. if not find another one. you can do it yourseelf with a hole saw like the pic shows. remove the drill bit from the center and cut around the stud. do all 5 and just drop it on a cement floor and it should seperate. seen a lot of hubs on chrysler products destroyed by not doing this procudere and just trying to beat them out.

the easyest way is to cut off all the studs as close as you can to the drum, then they will punch out, i used a small hammer and hit it with a larger hammer and the hub fell out, for some reason once the hub is parted from the drum the studs will beat out then,

So am I to understand that with this conversion I am going to use my old front drum hubs? Just curious because I wasnt straight on that before.

Im driving my van just fine, but my master is back bleeding thru itself, so I need to replace it. When Ive got all the parts ready I'll just do the swap instead.

yes you need your old hubs, but i think scarebird will sell you hubs, if you want to buy them,

Like jkr said, the studs are swedged. you need to use the hole saw to cut the shoulder off. If you don't, when you press or hammer them out, you will enlarge the stud hole and the new studs wont fit right. I used a grinder to cut the heads off the studs and pounded them out from the back. Either way you will need new studs.

i got these they look a little shorter, the ones on there now hit the caliper on a hard turn, i guess i'll find out when they arive,

A while back i read a post about a bracket that relocates the sway bar link to the top of the axle to keep it from hitting the caliper. You might find it in the files.

My stock links don't hit at all.

i need to test drive it i blead all the brakes today, its got a nice firm pedal. what it might be i removed 2 springs to lower the front end, the top caliper plastic bolt cover hits the link when its on a hard turn, the link gives tho so i'm not going to worry about it, i think the new links i ordered should solve any problems,

thanks dix, me too the hardest part is cutting out for the bigger MC, soon as the new sway bar links get here i can get them installed and test drive it, plus i'm still waiting for the gas tank sealer to completly dry, i'll give it another week,

Can anyone share the brand and/or location of any brake line kits you used in your upgrade? Was one kit enough do replace all brake lines? cost? Or a list of all the brake lines purchased? need to know info? I'm getting ready to buy more hardware for the upgrade. thanks

you need a master cylinder and front brake hoses, i would replace all lines if there bad, there is a list of all the parts you'll need it comes with the scarebird brackets, or look back through this page,

I bought the stock lengths like dix, then bent and double flared them to fit.
