The run on issues are gone. The intake leak was the big cause. I'm still working on the heat. Today I ditched the flex fan and put on a stock fan. At idle, revving a little while I set the timing after replacing the gasket under the distributor, it went to 170ish, then dropped right to 160. This is without the aux fan going, air temp of about 35. We will see what tomorrow brings.

I'm working on getting a catch bottle rigged up. Thinking of putting it over by the voltage regulator. Still no shroud, I have no power where the plasma cutter is until mid april.

The original fan has helped, and tonight I ordered a CC255 radiator off of Amazon. Last night I found 5 on ebay, including one that's a "blem" for short money, but that auction doesn't come up till Tuesday morning. Tonight, amazon listed one left, and ebay had 1 plus the blem. 5 sold in 24 hours. So I bagged the one on Amazon for 220 delivered. Now I have to rig up a shroud. I hope this makes the difference!

I hope it all works out for you Hooch Hauler! Sounds like you're making headway and the new radiator can't hurt either...Keep us posted on the results.

Me too. Wednesday I had to drive home into a 40mph head wind. Worst ever! I drove home at 45-50 and was running 210-215. That's hot. I didn't think it was blowing that hard till I got home and saw the wind gauge.

1st gens didnt really run a shroud,, just that guard on top to keep ya from falling in. I ran a 5 blade fixed fan back in the day with no cooling problems. Don't know what it was out of tho. Sitting still the fan should do the work going down the road , not so much. I am not understanding what you are calling a flex fan?? One of those skinny looking flimsy things? if it is ditch it.

A flex fan is a multi blade fan with what looks like shim stock attached to a steel stamping. The thin blades flatten out at speed to save HP. Works when the car has a radiator in the wind, not so much on these. I took it off and put on a 5 blade from a 66 chevelle. It came on the 250 I have in the 64. The blade angle is steeper and being thicker, doesn't flatten out at all.

My chevy supplement shows a shroud, attaching in three places. But it's nothing more than a steel ring with 3 tabs to mount to the radiator brackets and the hoop that goes over the top behind the radiator. I'm thinking of getting something like that rigged up. We'll see how the new radiator helps.

I got the new radiator yesterday, a 2 core with one inch tubes. The three core was sold out! Now of course the mounting face is on the wrong side, being meant for a nova, but there are brackets on the side that look like they could be used to hold a nut ans put an L shaped bracket on there to mount to the vans flat metal. I'll keep you all posted.

Part of the run on issue was excessive fuel pressure. More than 8 pounds! Stock fuel pump going back on too.

I was just reading some electrical stuff and a run-on could also be caused by the alternator backfeeding to the ignition system using a diode in the exciter wire will stop this.

Good to know! After disconnecting the electric fuel pump, I haven't have any issues, and my volt gauge stopped twitching too.
