    mustang wheels Empty mustang wheels

Post by austinmodhouse Wed Jun 12, 2013 8:17 am

bullitt wheels, mustang 16”  cobra style?

both my vans need new tires/wheels.

I remember there was a member here that had a dark silver/gray and black econoline with 17x8 bullitt wheels.

    http://austin.craigslist.org/pts/3828360678.html

anybody else here running these?  I’ve bolted on plenty of 15” ranger/explorer wheels, but those are not as plentiful or good looking.  was wondering if they’d fit w/o any mods.

also, will the bullitt wheels fit my dodge?  right now it’s got super wide rear wheels (fender lip has been rolled) and super skinny front wheels.  I’m not really into the look, the tires are in bad condition and I’m sure new rear tires are expensive.

and what about these 16” cobra style wheels off a mustang?

    http://austin.craigslist.org/pts/3822136158.html

I know 15” wheels are ideal, but I’m not finding any good options.

didn’t somebody at one time start a chart or a list that could be referenced as to what wheels/tires work well, which ones rub and the ones that just don’t fit?

I have tried the search feature and I just can’t find it.  is it me?  or does the search function here only sort of work?

I am putting Cragar SS wheels and tires on my 67' panel tomorrow. 15 x 8 rear, 15 x 7 front. I will list the tire sizes later, don't have them off hand. I will let you know if they rub. The tire shop got under the van and measured everything so hopefully they fit.

I have put my 99 Cobra wheels on my 67, they fit really well in the rear, but because of the negative offset they have to be spaced outward in the front. Otherwise you can't turn without serious rubbing.

Here is mine with the new wheels and tires.

    15 x 7  P225/70R 15 100S front
    15 x 8  P255/70R 15 108S rear

They are tight, but don't rub. I will be curling my fenders in slightly on the bottom front edges to give myself another 1/2" or so clearance. Some like to go 15 x7 all the way around, others 15 x 6 fronts.

Very nice. I would love Cragar SS wheels on mine, however i don't think i would be able to stop them from rusting in our climate. See lots of them at shows, and they always seem to rust badly.

AMH, bullitt wheels will bolt on but have the wrong offset. They require spacers for earlier vehicles, including the Dodge. Dodge and Ford have 5 lug 4.5" pattern, but different center registers (hole in the middle). With a spacer, that's not an issue.

If you do a search for "adapting Bullitt wheels", I'm sure you will get a TON of links and info. Google alone has over a million results. Then there is Jeeves, Bing, etc.

NoBiggie, thanks for the sizes and pics. They help others 'see' how they fit and look!

Sy, the new Cragars do rust very easily. The older ones would too if left out in the elements. There are some older ones that have lasted pretty well, I'd assume that they had better chroming/prep. Google has 140,000 results for "Cragars rusting".

There are a bunch of wheel threads here that answer lug patterns, stock sizes, sizes that fit, and other info. There is also a huge amount of sites that will provide basic info and show how you can measure your vehicle so you can decide what will fit. There are also a lot of sites that give feedback on various products. Maybe I'm getting cranky, but these are getting a bit repetitive.

I’ve been gone so long, I didn’t see any of these. thanks for the replies.

I’m not new to the interweb, have done my own HTML for more than a decade… around 15 years. wow, that makes me feel old. my daughter is in high school taking a class in HTML and I started before she was born… oh, sidetracked.

I find the search tool for this forum to be nearly useless. it seems to prioritize every word and ignores quotations marks intended to narrow results… I was looking for a specific E van here, that I was pretty sure had 17” mustang wheels. I can see it in my brain, it was silver and black, the dude lived by the beach (FL?). but I couldn’t find it. I don’t think those wheels would look right on our DCW. but if they’d fit on the a100…

I have both vans running. but to be road worthy, they both need new tires. and I don’t want to spend $ for new tires on wheels I’m not keen on.

DCW van needs some brake work (I just ordered a bunch of parts to get this moving) and the A100 hotrod van mostly needs fuel… and front tires that are wider than BMX tires.

I have 5 turbine wheels from an LTD. I was going to put them on my truck, but son-in-law gave me some bullet-holes that were wider to fit my 31x10.5x31's. I've been advertizing them for $125.00 on  craigslist if any one is interested.

Sorry to get cranky on ya, AMH...
Type "wheel" into the search bar.
    3 pages of results.
Looking at strictly wheel size and backspace topics posted, here is Page 1

There are a lot more on page 2 and 3. I had listed most of them too and it took so long it lost the dang list so here's just the 1st page.

Oh, and if you go to Google and type in
SITE: and this site, followed by a space and then your search term.
    Example:
    site:https://vintage-vans.forumotion.com mustang
    1280 results...
    site:https://vintage-vans.forumotion.com bullitt
69 results, mostly about a hurricane
3rd one down is this thread.
    site:https://vintage-vans.forumotion.com "mustang wheels"
This thread is the first result out of 17
    Which had this one
    https://vintage-vans.forumotion.com/t10102-new-paint-job-for-2010
That talks about the wheels and the spacers needed. Seems the pics have disappeared.
So that's how I found the EXACT THREAD.

BTW, going thru the threads in the first reply 3 pages, I answered these questions 3 or 4 times at least. I also started the thread DODGE VAN WHEEL QUESTIONS!!!!!!!! Please read it.
If you spend some time and do figure out exactly how to fit Bullitt Mustang wheels to an early, please write up all the info and share it. It would be a great thread.

Glad to have found it for you and that you didn't see these as more cranky retorts.
    BTW, typing
"bullitt wheels on classic mustang" gets 152,000 results!
    Since the early Mustang
    1. had similar wheels from the factory
    2. had small wheel wells too
3, will require similar spacers for the correct offset
Something in the results will probably answer all your questions.
There will be a LOT of "How do I do this?" results too.
Here's an article from Mustang Monthly answering a LOT of the How-tos...

    Thanks, RodStRace!

the article gives me some confidence the bullit wheels will work. I’m probably gonna get some to try on the a100, with spacers up front. the rear wheels that are on the a100 now are really wide (fender lip is rolled) and need tires that are a bit spendy in that size.

NoBiggie your van looks Killer dude

Thanks a TON for posting up with wheel size and tire size that is a HUGE help. I just got a set of wheels and have been buggin the crap out of everyone on the forums to send me sizes and pics and stuff. Now I just have to decide on 255 or 275 and if should buy a set of BFg's or Red Lines... my battle continues. Want those Red Lines but since they are bout double the cost maybe I should take the cash down to the circle K and invest it all in the HillBilly stock market and triple my money

Looks like I will be forced to drink that case of beer I was gonna bribe those kids with Ron. LOL

I just found a set of these Mustang GT wheels with 235/50's on them for a decent price on Craigslist, wish I knew exactly what he had to do (if anything) to make those work. Anyone know where that image came from?
