Rookie Brake Job Problems... Empty Rookie Brake Job Problems...

Post by wacko Wed Jul 15, 2009 8:42 pm

Ok, so replaced my front brake shoes tonight. Unfortunately I am having a problem with the drivers side. I managed to get the drum on but it is TOO tight and the wheel barely rotates by hand. The passenger side went on easy. This is my first time changing brake shoes so any suggestions appreciated. I did back the adjuster all the way off.

    Help????

First, did you mix up the primary and secondary shoes? You should have the shorter lining shoes at the front, the longer ones are at the back,,,,,,,you could of installed 2 primarys on that other side,,,,,, Is the bleeder valve open when you try and put the drum on???? sometimes they just make those shoes too thick,,,,,,,,

Doh!!! That was the problem, both primary shoes on the one side. So the longer ones face backwards? I just switched them but I think I may have put the longer ones facing forward. I will go switch them. Thanks once again Donivan for the help. I REALLY appreciate it. Very Happy

The shorter primary shoes on the front go on the sides closest to the front bumper,,,,,,and that would mean on the left backing plate it is mounted on your left, on the right side, it is mounted on your right,,,,,
