I have finally got my first van, a 70 Chevy and have a couple of questions. I keep reading 1st generation and 2nd generation. Is first gen. 64-66 and 2nd gen 67-70? Also, what's with the G10, G20 and G30?
Thanks, and Thanks in advance for all the other questions I'm going to have as I get into this.

    The G10- 1/2 ton , G20- 3/4 ton. Some GMC are a G12- 1/2 ton. Don't think they made our vans in a G30 (1 ton)

Welcome to the site, post us some pictures Very Happy

The G10 is a 1/2 ton rating, G20 is 3/4 ton and a G30 is a 1 ton rating. (Gmc rates them as G15, 25 and 35.) The 1st Gens only come in 1 flavor,,,,,G10 with a 90 inch wheelbase.. But the 2nd Gens come in G10 and and G20 models. They also could have V8 engines. They also come in 90 and 108 inch wheelbases. The G20 vans also have 6 lug wheels.

So donivan65, if I'm hearing you right, if my van has 5 lugs then it is a G10?

A handy thing to have is the Chevy Van shop manual supplement ST 36 printed in 1963 for 1st gen info. many times they show up on ebay for $10.

There is some stuff in that 1963 van supplement but you really need the factory 1970 books to have it all. And there are usually 2 books, a service one and an overhaul one for each year. And you are looking for Chevy Series 10-30 books. This would be a good one for you.
