Any advantage running 91 or 94 octane in these old engines or is it best to run lower octanes?

What octane fuel runs the best in a stock 190 (1966)?

I run the lowest in my 250, havent tried any other. The higher the octane the slower the burn. If it runs on the cheap stuff I dont think that there will be a big enough difference to warrant the cost.

I've run both in mine as well as adding octane boost and really can't tell the difference at all... So I always go for the cheap stuff.....

Those inline sixes all had low compression from the factory... the 1964 owner's manual shows 8.5:1 compression and states the engine is designed to run on regular grade gasoline, so the cheap stuff is fine. There is no advantage to running higher octane fuel, (unless you have rebuilt your engine and modified the pistons/combustion chambers to increase the compression ratio).
Adding a lead substitute when you fill up is a good idea because the older engines did not have hardened valve seats. They were designed for leaded gasoline and the lead lubricated the valve seats.

Been running regular gas in inlines from 194 to 292. 50's era to the 70's ( stopped using them after the integrated head - YUK) and never had a problem.......never ran any lead substitute either also without any problems. I will also ad I've been running mainly inline six Chevy engines ( my favorite engine) all of my life since my first car a 1953 Chevy that I got back in 1970.
