Basically there is no reason to buy anything other than regular (87 octane). Unless you hear pinging or knocking you could try stepping up one grade to stop it. Otherwise the only motors that benifit from higher octane are high compression; turbo or supercharged models. Here is a little info from the Federal Trade Commission but there is alot more info out there on the subject.

I think the highest we get without them calling it Racing Fuel is 93. No wonder gasoline is so very expensive over there. Smile

Could it be a different method of rating the octane?

This is because the British measure Octane by a different method than us Yanks do.

Your 95 is like our 89.

Check it out online to see...............like Wilkapedia as an example.

BTW------here 87 Octane would be REALLY CHEAP SHIT!...........( in Ohio 87 is hard to find....89 is the usual cheap gas AKA "regular".........91 is mid-range and 93 or 94 is premium & I've never seen 85 octane!!!! And hope I never do..........)

I'd always run at least 89 in anything.

It's what I run in my 300 I-6 and have no issues.

I run 93 or 94 in my Spitfire, Ghia & Ironhead HD............The Spitfire runs better on the Premium...........and Air-cooled engines run cooler on Premium gas.

As far as believing anything the Federal government "claims"............ affraid tongue Razz lol! lol! lol! lol! lol!
