I have a 66 econoline pickup, I have a lot of play in the steering wheel when driving. is this normal?

econoline boxes are commonly worn out. they can be reconditioned. still some people out there doing it. get a repair manual and attempt to adjust it first. when I sold my last econoline, I gave the new owner 2 good spare boxes. figured he would need one eventually.

Also check to be sure the steering box is bolted tight to the frame.

Also, don't forget to check all the other parts in the steering that could be worn. Any more than 2" of travel in the steering wheel needs to be addressed for certain.

If yours is that bad, it doesn't need to be on the road! As a kid growing up, every time I got a new ride and said anything to dad about an engine build, I always got the "It doesn't need to run if it wont stop 'n steer".
