2nd Gen air breather
I recently purchased a complete 2nd Gen air breather off of a 292. My question is will I need any thing other than a new valve cover with the hole for the pcv line? Or is the breather going to be to tall.

I don't have the valve cover yet just the air breather. I just need to know if it will work and what I will need to make it work if it will.

Re: 2nd Gen air breather
no such thing as a 2nd Gen 292 air cleaner,,,,,,there are 2 types of air cleaners,,,,,dry and oil bath,,,,,,you need a bracket that holds the air cleaner to the head,,,,,a coupling that goes between the air cleaner and carburetor so that the fresh air hose with the spark arrestor can connect to it,,,,,

Re: 2nd Gen air breather
OK let me rephrase my question. I am going from a dry to an oil bath air breather. It is complete as in it has the bracket and coupling. I got everthing connected to the breather. Just not the valve cover.

Re: 2nd Gen air breather
Well,,,,,,my buddy sure had an oil bath air cleaner on his 69,,,,,,,,so they do come on them,,,,,,but lets see if you get one that fits a van,,,,,,,,that coupling seems to be the most common problem when trying to put an air cleaner on a van,,,,,,,they come in different heights

Re: 2nd Gen air breather
My new air breather did come off of a 69 chevy van with a 292 and it doesn't look nearly as tall as that one does.

Re: 2nd Gen air breather
Can you please post some detailed pics of your air breather assembly? Its difficult to know what you have without seeing it.

Re: 2nd Gen air breather
thats surely wrong,,,,,,,,its backwards,,,,,,the air inlet is facing the back of the doghouse,,,,,,its from a smog engine with that hot air flapper valve on it,,,,,,is that an oil bath? aint there a paper filter inside it?

Re: 2nd Gen air breather
Yes I do have an inline 6 I may have put the top of the breather on wrong when I set it down. I have some more detailed pictures but I must have gotten lucky on the first one because I can't get anymore to load. Still trying.

Re: 2nd Gen air breather
that rubber fuel line hose sitting over the exhaust manifold needs to go for sure,,,,,,that is a newer air cleaner,,,,,,probably from 1975,,,,,,,,,but see if it fits,,,,,,,,,you just need something to keep the dirt from getting down into the carburetor,,,,,,,,people put lawnmower air filters on top of the carburetor to get the job done,,,,,,does that tubing go to some sort of air filter?

Re: 2nd Gen air breather
I have been cleaning the mouse crap and getting as much rust out of the inside of the van as possible. This breather just fell into my lap. I'm a ways from working under the dog house but thought I would see if it would work before I cleaned and painted it. Sorry I bothered you guys with this I thought it was a simple question. In the next couple of days when I get the floor in the front of my van done I will put it on and see if it fits. And then maybe I will have some Questions that can be answered. Once again too many variables.

Re: 2nd Gen air breather
Yeah its a K/N filter. A friend put that together so we could get it running and access how bad the engine was.
