Don, I've thought the same thing. Maybe move your trip from May to June? Of course, we Southern Californians forget how often it rains back east, whether it's Spring, Summer, or Fall.

I always wanted to get out on the road before Memorial day,,,,then everyone is running around on vacation, kids are out of school, gas prices go up, the weather gets really humid and hot,,,,,,,so there just dont seem to be a good time to be driving across country......

OK, 64Chevy guy,,,,,,,time to start packing up and heading WEST,,,,,I will be leaving Sunday around noon,,,,,,,heading south on I-55 to St Louis, jump on I-44 and probably spend the night near Joplin,,,,,,next day, down I-44 through Tulsa, and turn down I-40 in Oklahoma City and spend the night in Amarillo,,,,,go through Albuquerque, Gallup and Winslow and spend the night in Flagstaff on the 3rd night,,,,,,,,,and Wednesday, head down Highway 86 through Prescott and turn down I-10, through Quartzsite, Blythe and down through the Anza Borrego Desert, up into the Laguna Mountains and I am home,,,,,So get those guys standing around at Vandenburg to watch the weather and let me know what to expect,,,,,,,

Keep your eyes on the sky when you get to Oklahoma Donnie. They've been having heavy rain and tornado warnings along I40. Even had to use rescue boats on some fools who tried to drive thru flooded roads. Stay safe out there.
