Hoping for some input/advice on this van to buy:
    Asking 4200
    ------------------------------------------

From owner - She has rust and needs a few things, but all she really needs to get her running strong is a tune-up. The good- since I've had her I have replaced the carbeurator, alternator, radiator, starter, starter solenoid, plugs and wires, choke cable, voltage regulator, battery, distributor cap, brakes (pads, cylinders, and cables), and tires, which have had less than 1000kms of use. She is standard with a three-on-the-tree shifter setup. The motor is a straight 6 with only 105000 original miles on it. She is also a recreational vehicle and can be insured as one so the insurance costs are minimal. There is a propane heater/stove with a sink and a bench with a table that can be broken down into a flat surface to put a mattress on for a bed. The top also pops up for additional headroom when camping. I am the 3rd owner.
    -------------------------------
Love these vans, especially camper ones. Not familiar with them though. Looking forward to input.

    Thank you

Looks to be in very good condition. If it runs and stops and you like the camper give the asking price, If it is a 67 it is priced to low. Just My OPN.

That looks pretty nice for 4200. Most people have wiggle room in their asking price. I might say 4k or 3800, depends on how many bites they have too. If they got a lot of bidders could just ignore you when you start to haggle.

Low retail on a 1965 Ford Econoline is around $3800. Seeing that this is a very rare Mercury Econoline (don't let her know that though) a price of $4000 should not be out of line. Canadian Mercury trucks were discontinued in 1968.

Post by steelrat Thu Nov 27, 2014 3:58 pm

Thank for all the feebback guys.

My plan is to clean it up and to start, enjoy it as a survivor. I have a special needs son and we get stuck on the couch a lot when he is having bad days. We live 20 minutes from the Golden Ears Park, so would like to hang out up there in the van with my son vs the couch. All he needs on bad days is a comfy place to sit, his Ipad or a portable DVD player and dad beside him. We can do some overnights on good days, but just think hanging out in the old Mercury with nature and fresh air a better gig than the couch. My wife and I use do overnighters years ago in our Dodge Caravan. I think the Mercury will have a whole lot more cool retro appeal than the Caravan

Later on would look fixing it up, doing the inside to make it a bit more "wife" friendly. Curtains and some cushions for the back part. Putting new flooring in. Any suggestion what to use?

There are seat mounts for a 3rd seat behind the dog house. I just need to figure out what kind of used car/van/truck seat to use and to set up a lap belt.

    Thanks
    Shaun

    Well done Shaun!

Glad you got her, especially at that price! I already had a look at it before it went for sale and although there's definitely work involved to get her pristine she has strong bones and should give you years of fun time. Enjoy!!!

Love your story and reasoning behind making your purchase. As a dad myself I can't help but not only be interested as a enthusiast but also would love to hear how much you and your son are enjoying this sweet old ride.
Since your son seems like he enjoys technology maybe you should encourage him to start a blog and document the great memories you guys are making together?
    GOD bless & enjoy.

I got the van to a friends garage. What a riot driving the 3 in the tree Very Happy

I was quite surprised how quiet the van was on the inside during the drive. The doghouse seems to be well insulated as there is minimal engine noise. The brakes were so so. Owner had them all done a year ago, but I think the 4 wheel drum brake set up may just be lacking compared to my other expereinces in new vehicles and my 70 Nova. The Nova has discs front and drum rear.

Is there a front disc conversion kit available?

Great to have it in the garage. First step is pulling out the cabinets and old flooring. Looking forward to working on it over winter and getting advice and feedback from the memebers on the forum.

    Thank you
    Shaun

You can PM Old Skool on this site for an Econoline Disc brake conversion kit and he also sells resleeved dual master cylinders as well. That will bring the brake system up to par. He's a wealth of Econoline knowledge.
