    Carb problem? Empty Carb problem?

Post by coalnation Tue Apr 02, 2013 1:22 pm

My 67 Falcon Van has a small issue. It starts just fine, runs for a few minutes then stalls. After it stalls gasoline pours out of the bottom of the carburetor. After this happens its difficult to start again but if I let it sit for about an hour it will crank just fine then do the same thing again. Any clue on what the problem might be?

    Thanks!

Well its flooding out,,,,,the needle is not closing off the flow of gas from the fuel pump after the carburetor is full,,,,,,you can clean the needle and seat, put in a new one and check and see if the float still floats so it can push the needle so it closes off the gas,,,,,

50 yr gas lines, when was the filter, filters changed? It could be as simple as crap holding the needle valve open, it's happened to me.

Cleaned out the bowl and and around the needle. Cranked it and it idled nicely for about 15 minutes. When I turned it off no gas came out of it, I cranked it right back up and it started with no problem at all. Thanks guys!

But like the guys said,,,,there is probably more stuff coming out of the tank,,,,,so you need to be sure that the tank is clean and the rubber hoses replaced as well as any filters, or someday, it will flood again and could turn into a MAJOR issue if it backfires and catches fire,,,,,so plan accordingly,,,,,

At least change the old rubber hoses from the tank all the way up to the carburetor,,,,,this alcohol and Ethylnol gas now a days destroys old rubber,,,,,

I'm going to do that this afternoon. It looked like there was dirt in the float bowl.

Decided to pull the carb off and rebuild it. While taking it apart it parts of it honestly started to crumble away. It looks like I'm going to be getting a new carb. Anyways, I've been searching. Would this work?

It says it is for a 250-300. What engine do you have. The carb has to match the distributor. Some are low vacuum, some high vac. and some duel vac.

You could be having an electrical problem,,,,,,If you pump the gas pedal with the engine off and you see some gas down in the carburetor and it still won't start,,,,,you need to start looking at the electrical parts,,,,,spray a bunch of carb cleaner down the carb and then see if it trys to start,,,,,,
