I am so close to getting my 66 Falcon running but I need some help with the carb. The motor is not the original, it's a rebuilt Ford straight 6. The tag on the valve cover says 250 CID. The carb is a Rochester Monojet which I think is a GM Carb so Im guessing that is probably my main problem. Any suggestions as to a better carb to use? I just can't keep it running. Starts fine but chokes out right away. Suggestions Please & Thank You.

First I'd verify that it is indeed a 250. The valve covers for 250, 200, 170, and 144's are interchangeable. It should have 5 freeze plugs AND a 4 bolt water pump. If it has 5 freeze plugs and a 3 bolt water pump it is a 200. If it has 3 freeze plugs it is a 170 or 144.

If it's a 250 it may have come with a Carter RBS , or possibly a YF

You may have a plugged fuel filter or gunk in the needle valve in the carb. May be a vacuum leak. The carb may need a rebuild. If there's junk in the tank or lines it will just get into the new carb or plug the new filter.

Info on the Rochester you have, http://www.carburetor-parts.com/Rochester-Monojet_ep_352.html

Thanks for the info, I will check the freeze plugs and the H2O pump to verify. I will check the line and the filter as well. The tank is new and gas is good but prior tank was in pretty bad shape and that could be an issue.
    Thanks Again.

So on that carburetor,,,,,,after it starts can you keep it running by spraying carb cleaner down into it or does it just fill up with gas down in it after it dies?

I'll try the carb cleaner tomorrow and let you know. Thanks again for all of the help. I'm just a rookie with a passion for my vintage van.
