    Torque Converter Empty Torque Converter

    Help if possible...

I haven't figured out yet if the motor is a 230 or 250 but its original with 99k, I have a (high locking?) B&M torque converter with a 700R4 tranny installed in my van from previous owner. In the glove box there is a little box with a knob on it for the torque converter. My question is, Can i replace the B&M with a stock or regular converter, and what kind?? I think the B&M makes the motor idle really high and just wants it to keep moving when in drive. Ill post pix when i get a chance. Thanks

What stall speed did they say the TC is?

What RPM is your engine idling at in neutral?

Not sure of rpm idle and I was never told what the stall speed is. Once I switch gears the van jumps and wants to take off like a bat outta hell.

That controller has strictly to do with how the van has been wired up to control the Converter on and off. There should be more to it then just the box. That electrical set up will work on any lock up converter of that era, so that does not mean you have a B+m converter.

Weather you do have a B+M converter or not is irreverent to you question.

The torque converter does not make the engine Idle high and the pulling when in gear at idle is because the idle speed is too high. This is not a converter problem.

At this point you don't know what your idle speed is, only that you think its too high and it does sound like it is too high by what you describe.

You need to turn the engine idle down at the carburetor adjustments to about 650 0r 700 in neutral which should become about 600 in drive.
    Then see how things are.

That box is to control the converter at highway cruise speeds.
