Master Cylinder Rebuild Question Empty Master Cylinder Rebuild Question

    Post by rustybug13 Sat Dec 22, 2012 8:14 am

After doing a search on here I didn't find what I was looking for so I'll throw it out there. Has anyone done an orginal master cylinder rebulid? I ordered a rebuild kit from Mac's and got it all put together, but the brake fluid started leaking out of the front of it. I took out all of parts and with some fine sand paper smoothed down the area where the seal sits. It still leaks out. Any help with this problem would be great.

Mine has the same problem. You will need to have the cylinder resleeved. The machinist will use the plunger from your rebuild kit, oversize the hole of the master cylinder and resleeve hole to the size of the plunger, most likely this is the problem, the master cylinders just get worn. hope this will help you.

    Hi,

White Post Restorations will sleeve your master cylinder. You are talking about the 67 dual circuit MC right? The 61-66 single mc is readily availble. No need to spend the bucks to sleeve one. The 67 only one is impossible to find and usually don't last long if you do find one. The metal they were made from would pit easily. Sleeving is the way to go on these.

There was another guy the sleeved. Joe at Sierra Speciality but he has retired and no longer is doing them.

D and D disc brakes offers a conversion kit that lets you use a commonly available Ford Ranger mc.

With your guys' prompting I bought the master cylinder kit from D&D today and had a few questions that you guys that did the upgrade might answer.
1.How'd you do the split for the brakes? With a t-fitting or somthing else?
2.Where would I be able to pick up the fittings that go on the top of the m.c.?
    Thanks for the help. Dan
