Has anyone rebuilt their master cylinder and had the problem of the piston being to tight to fit into the the cylinder bore? If so what was the solution.

If the piston came in the kit, it might be the wrong kit...

Thanks for responding Rip. I believe its the right kit everything is the same size. The rubber seal around the piston just seems pretty tight. I have it soaking in brake fluid maybe it will soften it up.

Thats the kit I got the rubber around the piston is tight to try and get it in the bore. Once it gets to the outer flange of the rubber seal it stops going in. is thier a tool i need maybe?

Re: 1963 master cylinder rebuild
So the spring and inner cup go in and so does the piston until the seal on it gets stuck like in the snap ring groove? I would be sure that there is no lip or edge sticking up and clean it up with some emory cloth. Then lubricate that seal with assembly lube or brake fluid and tuck it into the bore with a small screwdriver,,,,,,

That's a strange looking master cylinder. Did all the early Econos use that?

Thanks Donivan, I'll give that a try. I thought maybe there was a tool to get that flange pushed back. Yeah everything fits good except that rubber seal around the piston.

Re: 1963 master cylinder rebuild
I guess a real thin feeler gauge would help the seal get over the rough spots also,,,,,,,

Re: 1963 master cylinder rebuild
Has anyone bought a master cylinder from RockAuto.com?
I have a 1963 Falcon Station bus. I checked RockAuto and they do not list master cylinders for 1963 Econoline or Station bus. But they do list master cylinders for 1963 Club Wagon and Club Wagon Deluxe. It shows pics of the master cylinders and they look the same as the one that I have. Can anyone tell me if they are indeed the same and why the price difference of $81 for one and $100 for the other?

Re: 1963 master cylinder rebuild
Now would be the time to upgrade to the dual master conversion from D and D Brakes for added safety. Its the next best thing to a factory dual master and being that its a remote fill is a plus.
