65 sportvan spring bushings
Hello everyone, I have finally removed my front axle and leaf springs for king pin and bushing replacement. The springs on the front of the van are the same size on both the driver and passenger side. I have had no problem finding the HB930 bushing for the shackle end but I cant seem to find anything for the (front) cartridge end. Donivan, I am hoping you can tell me where you got this #2056 with#6 sleeve. Also I am going to have to replace the locating pin for the passenger side spring and one u bolt. I would be grateful for any help or suggestions. My local spring shops dont seem too interested.

Re: 65 sportvan spring bushings
I got them here,,,,I don't think they have a web store,,,,,they really are for 2nd Gens, and since 2nd gens have 3" wide springs and 1st Gens have 2" wide, you need to trim the neoprene and sleeve off a little,,,,but it fits great! I sent Devimau over there to get some and they sold him some cartridges,,,,,,and they fit good,,,,so,,,,,there is a chance that those 2nd Gen cartridges can be cut down to fit a 1st Gen,,,,,I am going to go buy one and see if I can make it fit a 1st Gen spring. I bought other cartridges, but they were a sloppy fit,,,,they need to be a press fit. OR,,,,,,call them,,,,pay for them and I will go down there and pick them up and mail them to you if you can't find another place that sells them,,,,,,those just seem like normal bushings that an off road or 4WD shop would have ,,,,,,

Re: 65 sportvan spring bushings
Thanks Donivan,
I will get my old bushings pressed out so I can get a better o.d. measurement and give them a call. There is a 4wd shop here I can try, I did not think of that. There is surely somwhere close by I can find these parts. There have been so many good posts on this site that many times I don't have to ask a question because it has already been answered. I sure appreciate the help.

Re: 65 sportvan spring bushings
The neoprene are 1.134 diameter, and thats what I think the original metal cartridge bushings are,,,those new 2 1/2" wide metal ones are 1 1/8" (1.125),,,,,but I need to buy one of those 3" wide ones,,,,they fit REAL GOOD in a 2nd Gen spring,,,,,so if they fit in a 1st Gen spring, then we need to whack off an inch,,,,,,

leaf spring replacement
Donivan , in the picture there are 2 red bushing cartridges ? next to a stack of 8 black bushings , will the red bushing cartridges fit new 2 1/2" springs for a 2nd gen? Just purchased new springs from Atlas spring and am very confused on fitment {orig spring seem to be 4" at body mount/perch , new are 2 1/2" ?)

Re: 65 sportvan spring bushings
I was looking for you when I left Pasadena,,,The Black HB 930 are for the Shackles,,,they are for 2nd Gens and can be cut down for 1st Gens,,,,2nd gens are 3" at the bushings, (2 1/2" at the U Bolts),,,1st Gens are straight 2",,,,,,so no problems for 4 shackle bushings on each spring...now that metal cartridge is a different story,,,,I have never found a 1st Gen one so I put those red ones with a sleeve in place of it,,,,,and just last week, the spring shop sold Devimau a metal cartridge called RB 99 and it fit PERFECT,,,,so I will be going to National Spring and buying one and seeing if I can get it to fit a 1st Gen,,,,but those black ones and that cartridge are PERFECT FIT for 2nd Gens,,,,,

Re: 65 sportvan spring bushings
I hope the spring shop knew that you needed 3" springs and they need to be cut down in the middle so the 2 1/2" U bolts will slide over them,,,,,

leaf springs
No my springs are 2 1/2" inch all the way down , I got new u bolts at the same time. I am concerned about the slop at the mount points . What is o.d dimension of the red cartridge ( total cartridge length )
I believe my mount dim at body and shackles is 3 5/8 inches

Re: 65 sportvan spring bushings
So those are not the right springs and you want to make them work,,,,,3 5/8 is what the front spring saddle is,,,,,,,and that is how wide the bushings are,,,,,,they stick out about 1/4" on each side from the 3" wide springs,,,,but you need to add washers to the red bushings to fill that 1/2 space that you now have with those skinny springs,,,,,,,HOWEVER,,,,the RB-99 at National Spring is 3 5/8 so they would hang out 1/2" and hold your springs from sliding side to side,,,,,,IF,,,,you get a tight fit,,,,,and that is a BIG PROBLEM,,,,,you need a crush fit to press the metal ones in and a REAL ACCURATE hole and bushing measurement if you are pressing in metal cartridges,,,,,,and I don't think all holes in the springs are the same,,,,you can't use a loose metal cartridge in there, the whole axle will slide left and right,,,,I think the red bushings with flat washers will be easier to do,,,,,,

Re: 65 sportvan spring bushings
So what are you going to do,,,,,get the red # 2056 bushings and a #6 sleeve and add some flat washers to take up the slack or the RB-99 metal cartridge,,,,,The shackle ends are HB 930,,,,,,I will probably go see Ben Tomorrow and get one of those cartridges he calls RB-99,,,,,,that might not be their real number, but they sure are the right ones for a 3" wide 2nd Gen spring,,,,,,

Why don't you crawl under your other 2nd gens and tell me how wide their springs are,,,,,,,

Re: 65 sportvan spring bushings
Donivan , just ordered bushings for springs at shackles and frame , National is going to provide a modified Energy 2043 for shackles and a modified Energy 2007 for frame .(Note part #'s are for 67 G10 350/350th)

Re: 65 sportvan spring bushings
The upper shackle bushing would have to be stock, while the lower bushing and cartridge would have to be a shimmed type to mount those skinny springs,,,,,and if you say they are 67 350/TH350 part numbers, there aint no such van like that,,,,,I would of thought that if you got the correct 3" wide springs and used a grinder to adjust them for the u bolts to fit, you would of found the correct bushings,,,,,,,but lets see what you get,,,,,,,

Re: 65 sportvan spring bushings
Thats your problem,,,,you are NOT ordering parts for a Van,,,,,you are trying to put some Jeep springs or something on a van,,,,,,I would be bringing the old springs and new springs to a spring shop and ask them for adapter bushings to make the new ones fit,,,,,,

Re: 65 sportvan spring bushings
Did he tell you what sleeve numbers you were getting,,,,probably #6 is going in the shackle end,,,and what about the upper shackle bushings,,,you can't use fat ones there,,,,,they take HB 930 and as usual, National Spring is out of them and might not ever get them anymore,,,,,and what is your front bolt size 1/2" or 9/16"?

Re: 65 sportvan spring bushings
That's not sounding good,,,,in my book, you don't need to change the upper bushings,,,,they are HB 930's and Ben has been out of them for years,,,,,,so what is he sending you,,,,fatter ones to make the shackles even fatter?
You might call and ask him what, or if, he is sending for the uppers,,,,,,,,and then the question is DO YOU NEED THE UPPER HB 930 BUSHINGS,,,,,and I know where to get them,,,,,,
