Re: kingpins replace cost ?
oo3,
Finding the king set is the key. Once you have that if you have the mechanical ability to remove you axle then your more than capable of changing the king pins your self.

Re: kingpins replace cost ?
I am thinking only your van knows the answer,,,,,if you can remove the kingpin and pull off the spindle then you can take it to a machine shop to get the bushings installed,,,,because, sometimes, when you press them bushings in, they still may need to be resized so the new kingpin shaft will fit back in.....so,,,if you cant get the kingpin shaft to come out on the van, then take the axle off and let them EARN their money,,,,

Re: kingpins replace cost ?
You can find the parts, someone already listed one possibility. Note that there are 2 sizes at least.
Call around and talk to local shops. Try to find a real TRUCK shop, they will have the tools and experience for a kingpin rebuild.
Talk to them first, since they may have a good supply for the parts. Some shops also frown on "bringing your eggs to Micky Ds and asking for breakfast".

Re: kingpins replace cost ?
there is two different kits that i know of. 2200 and 2500 lb axle. check the door tag to know what one you have. any good machine shop will ream out the bushings for you. leave them with about .002 play as any tighter will be to snug to turn and very heavy on the wheel. did a set years ago and left them to tight and they wore faster and wound up looser than the old ones. don't worry about the cost espically if there real loose now. when done you can let the wheel go at 50 mph and not worry what direction you might wind up cause it will go straight ahead if properly aligned.

Re: kingpins replace cost ?
my tag says 2200 axle - i only see the moog 8453b kits available ? ( or the set with nylon bushings ) - while i feel confident in my mechanical abilities, i think i would like this job done by someone who has done this many times before - but -- the first shop i spoke with the lady said app $1100 parts and labor - now this was over the phone and maybe we were not on the same page, but that sounded like a bit much - the second shop i stopped at said 380 for labor plus parts - that is dropping the van off and picking up done - he also said he would put it on the rack first and evaluate - is that in the ball park or ? - both places were shops that do big truck semi work - oo3

that first quote is nutz...
Second is much more in line. Make sure they use bronze bushings and burnish or ream them to size.

don't even bother with the plastic bushing kits. if you have to a machine shop can make new bushings from scratch but you will pay for that. the plastic won't last at all.
