Re: The Blue No Door
VANagain also got two 700r4 transmissions laying in his driveway,,,,he is just cleaning up a little and hoping he gets his engine core refund back since he sent it back yesterday, a month and a half after it expired. I guess the No Door has been in my driveway for a while,,,,time sure goes by fast when you're having fun,,,,,and not working on vans,,,,but I guess I can do some more work on it WHILE I AM WAITING FOR GAS PRICES TO GO DOWN,,,,,,,

Some people wear fancy jewelry or clothes to show off their wealth, we just drive an early. Folks say, "wow that guy must be rich to afford to drive that gas slurping beast!"

Re: The Blue No Door
I think with a 700r4 or 2004r overdrive transmission and a 3:36 rear end, you won't have the worst mileage truck in the neighborhood,,,,and so far, everyone only has good things to say about my van,,,,

Is that the temp inside the van? You could bake some cookies in there.

Re: The Blue No Door
That is the temperature of the van metal,,,,,you would burn your hand if you grabbed the door handle. Its even worst inside or in anything parked outside,,,,,the sun is BRUTAL,,,It's over 100 in the shade,,,,its no fun being outside during a heatwave,,,,,however,,,,,the people in Phoenix consider this warm weather,,,,,

Re: The Blue No Door
Here in the lab its a muggy 90, no airco yet. But once at home in Torrance it should be 15 degrees cooler. I love the ocean breeze this time of year. You live in inland SD? Not a lot of the ocean breeze works its way up to your place I'm guessing.

Re: The Blue No Door
Yes indeed, up over the Sepulveda hump. My Dad used to have a house there, and I used to live in Chatsworth and Northridge, both of which are certainly cooking hot. Ever since making my way to Torrance I have enjoyed the slightly cooler weather. Today I am going to see how long I last sandblasting the back of the Van. I need to put on an overalls, tape the cuffs down, put on a face shield, hair cover and respirator so I don't become a sand monster, so I might not last so long. I want to finish this project step since the rest of the inside repairs await the epoxy coated floor.

Re: The Blue No Door
That's the real reason Don comes to work with me on my vans, because it's 20 degrees cooler here by the bay! Even the wrecking yard we went to today was bearable. Nice breeze. Scored lots of parts too, on their half price weekend!

Re: The Blue No Door
That heat is dangerous,,,your body wants to shut down,,,,and thats not good,,,,and its real easy for fires to start,,,,and if everyone cranks up their home air conditioners at once,,,,the power goes out and talk about real misery,,,,,,
I got me a 3rd Gen proportioning valve, a solid left panel door and a lower radiator support off a 2nd Gen and a drivers door vent assembly for Harry, who called me while I was there because he just tried to open his vent and it snapped off....
I would say my 4 Pick a Parts stay open to 6 pm, 365 days a year,,,,,,

Re: The Blue No Door
I can vouch for the junkyard being open until 5:30 at least. I was there for hours grabbing things off my list and taking advantage of the 1/2 price sale.
I picked up: a pop-out window with only minor rust, stock air cleaner, a newer air cleaner for a possible mod I've got in mind, side door latch, a couple electric fans to try out, newer alternator with built-in voltage regulator, HEI distributor and coil, brake regulator for upcoming disc brake upgrade, a couple of space-saver spares, shiny ash tray from a Corvair, inspection cover and shifter lever for my 700R4 tranny, and misc. hardware. Oh, and some parts for my significant other's Saturn, to help keep her spirits up while my van projects monopolize the garage and driveway! Grand total: $140
I'm so glad the early van scene is not too hung up on keeping them totally original. There are so many modern advances that we can take advantage of pretty easily while keeping our vehicles still looking pretty stock.

Re: The Blue No Door
Hey VanAgain, I have seen images of how Donivan added an electric fan, so I was wondering what you might try. I presume these are to keep your beast cool while creeping in CA traffic on a hot afternoon.
