    Leaf Springs Empty Leaf Springs

    Post by eric67vanpkup Wed May 11, 2011 4:06 pm

I am currently overhauling my front leaf springs. I am stripping and wire wheeling all the loose stuff off. I discovered that all of the plastic pads between the leafs are either gone or completely gone. I was wondering if anybody has run into this problem. And also where or what I could use that will replace the pads.

I was wondering ... do the springs have round indentions on the end of the springs ????? because if they do .. the round inserts are still available ...

There are some that have the round indenting and some that doesn't. I have got both. I an running a set of rear springs I got a set off of a 66 super van. It has the round indentions on the shackle end of the spring. I am putting my original front ones back on the truck. Which has the square pads.

I can't remember if it was in here, or in one of the Yahoo Econoline groups where someone restored the leaf springs and those inserts... can't remember what they used. Hopefully this will tweak someone's memory.

Hey Corey..Just got of the phone with my brother, who found a roll of Teflon that He cut into strips that look like a skinny I-Beam. He took the stack apart and put strips in between each leaf the full length. He said it made a world of difference in the ride of his F-150 crew cab. Problem is he bought it off a friend here is S'toon and was not sure where He had got it from. My guess Winicot springs might have it. Price unknown. Also might need "new" larger spring clamps to hold leafs together, because the leaf stack will get a little thicker once you put it all together(thickness of each strip of teflon 1/16" per piece) . I hope this helps, and if I find it first I will let you no where and how much.
