Re: Leaf Spring Source
My original front springs were mismatched as well as the CrashVan,,,,,so they come on some vans that way,,,,,,here is the 1964 specs,,,,,I think 5 leafs are standard, 6 are heavy duty and I have no idea what the LESSER LOAD RATING that Dan keeps talking about. I would like to be able to tell if a spring is good by looking at it before putting it on and see if it sags,,,,,,

Re: Leaf Spring Source
I only have 8 1st gen. axles left here and the larger spring eye on the passenger side is normal from the factory. I had some break over the years and I just got another one from the junkyard.
I did subject them to some strain sometimes

This wasn't the issue on mine. This pass side had a much lighter spring, smaller ring size and thinner leafs. Someone just simply replace it at some point with what I can only figure is a car spring. They may have put many different springs in our vans over the years but this one was not a van spring and that was the problem.
No matter, all new springs now and she's riding high and level.
Don, I would like to be able to tell if a spring is good by looking at it too.... But looking at this spring once it was out you could tell it wasn't right.

Dan, I know it's been awhile, but by chance do you still have that one front spring and rear set?
I have six leaves on passenger side, and five on driver...and need to level my 65 out.
thanks.

Re: Leaf Spring Source
Hey Dan,
I know this post is from years ago, but did the spring you ordered from this place bolt right in? No bushing mods or anything? My springs are pretty flat. What did they charge you for springs if you don't mind me asking.

Re: Leaf Spring Source
Viking,
Years ago "State Spring Co." in Grand Rapids, Michigan bought the patent for the G10 Springs a long with many others from General Motors.
They now reproduce the exact springs made to the exact tolerances that GM had intended for those vehicles. I have ordered two sets for both my vans and Yes, since they are the exact springs they do bolt right in!
Even ordered an extra inch and a half arch to one set for the 66 panel since I was dropping a 327 into it and swapping to larger wheels....
I can't remember off the top of my head the pricing. But if you call them, they can quote you prices and shipping. Really nice folks too!
Hope this helps,
Dan

Re: Leaf Spring Source
Buddy Tom sold his 66 a few years ago. But he did get the spring & they fit great.
They were kind of $$$ but were custom built for what he wanted for his van.
Look on his build (Millwright71 66 build)not sure if he posted #
Last pic (& last Fun ride in his van)of his van before it went to FL to be Daily driver

You might call McVeighs' Truck Springs, Inc and ask if they can make them. They make them for Econolines and alot of other classic vehicles, all makes. A full set is around $825 shipped.
