I too am sorry for your loss.. I never had the same kind of dog as You but back around thanksgiving I had to euthanize my dog because of old age (15 1/2) related issues...Man that was the 3rd hardest thing I ever did..1st was burying my firstborn Son..2nd was burying my dad...

Funny thing about dogs you may not seem to know what a big part of your family they are until they are gone...I was a train wreck for several days around that time...sobbing uncontrollably ....man that is a tough time...I feel your pain brother

I am very sorry to hear that. I have been a dog lover all my life and owned kennels where I bred Boxers, Rotties, Pekingese and chihuahuas. I have three 14 year old dogs right now and it will be rough when they pass. I once took a week off work because my parrot died. Animals grow on you. I have had Spider monkey and a Gibbon ape as well as many cats, dogs and exotic birds. It always hurts to lose one.

I ve got a mini zoo myself. We've always had 4 or 5 dogs of all varieties for the past 15 years or so. The wife used to manage an animal hospital so theres always a needy animal being nursed to good health at our place. Got a dog sawin logs next to me right now matter of fact.

yes it is casey was 14 and rooster 13 the most F-ed thing about rue was he just was geting over being nutered because he was peeing blood 500.00 later he checked out ok no canser vet said nutering would help the swelling go down in the prostate and things would be ok.i took him up north last for some must needed fun he had a blast we got home monday unloaded everything he went in the yard ok seemed normal short time later i seen him limping though he had a stone in his paw checked no seemed to start walking ok agin.short time later i asked kid to check him she found him under the camper foming at the mouth i went out and pulled him out and MY GOD he was 3 times his size swollen.loaded him up took off to the vet.they x-rayed him the came vet came in she told me THIS IS NOT GOOD.i said Doc i had the most F-up dreame last that i found my dog dead . the women busted out crying and told me he has to be put down that he was dieing rt not.what happened is he must of drank a lot of water when we go gome took off runing and his stomaic twisted in side cutting off blood flow.it happens to deep chested dogs.it was a horeable thing to go through.i was home at 2;30pm and he was gone at 4;30 pm it happens that fast.

I have seen that happen in Rottweilers. It generally happens in young active dogs. Generally the dog gets fed dried dog food and he eats too much and then drinks a lot of water causing the dried dog food to swell and then when he starts running or jumping around the stomach twists and it is always fatal since the owner doesn't know what happened till it is too late.I was a boxer and Rottie breeder for over 30 years and always told new people that bought my dogs to give them water first and then the dried food. I also told them to never feed their dogs any food bought at a grocery store. Science Diet and Diamond dog food is much better although costs more but then the dog eats less and there is less waste to clean up later.

My rotti mix had to be put to sleep about 2yrs ago due to a stroke, she was only 8 years old. Only thing that helped me get over that is the little shepherd/pitt bull mix I got a month later.

I have a 9 year old Dobie that probably isnt going to make it much past 10 with the way her hips are going.
A year and a half ago we had to put down my wife's cat, which was possibly the coolest cat you could ever find. His kidneys failed when he was 8 and there wasnt any other option.
That was hard and I imagine the dog is going to be as hard or harder to deal with.
Never a good thing to lose one you love, pet or otherwise.
