I have a guy that works at an auto body supply store... I'll see what they have in stock. A friend in Calgary was very happy with the B-Quiet though.

Hey OP,
This is my 1st post on this board but I can answer some of the questions for you as I've just done the same thing.
First, the heat issue.
I re-insulated the doghouse on my '65 A100 and it gets super hot in there as well. As far as I can tell it's from two things, the heat isn't able to leak into the passenger compartment anymore (making the doghouse more air tight) and the foil backing is doing what it is supposed to do, reflect heat back into the engine compartment. You've got to start taking other measures to counter act it, electric fans, seven bladed mechanical fan, etc.
Second, the insulation issue.
I bought a complete repro insulation kit from a guy I found online. It's 1/2" fabric "felt" (flame resistant) with foil backing. The kit comes with everything you need, foil tape, glue, backing, dynamat strips for sound deadening etc, noise reduction was easily 50%. It's also very affordable, cheaper than you can get it all separate for in my opinion. I did mine and I can see it lasting another 45 years.
I don't know him personally but our business transaction went fine, his email address is "dcmopar AT gmail DOT com" if you're looking for a kit.

Hey G-man,
Nope, he doesn't have a web site. I found him on the A100 Yahoo group, we had one phone conversation and swapped a few emails. He sent me a paypal invoice and the kit arrived a couple weeks later. I've got some pics of the installed kit that I'll post later or maybe in a "how-to" post if there's a board section for that.
eta: I see my profile updated, there are picts of the installed kit in the profile link.

How to section would be great and maybe the guy's phone # The heat thing is really not a "A" problem. This is something that can help all of us.
Start a thread in the members section with more pictures of your van if you can. And again glad to have you here

Here's another option if you cant get in touch with "dcmopar". The "UltraTouch" foil backed insulation is pretty much the same stuff that's in the kit (about 1/2" thick foil backed), it comes in several bulk sizes. J.C. Whitney also sells a partial partial kit, the one from dcmopar has differs in that it has new plastic tabs, hushmat strips, glue, tape etc and is pre-cut. If you go one of the other routes you can get the other parts (glue, HVAC tape) from Home Depot or somewhere.

cool....I ended up trying a foil insulation I found at Lowes, just attached it this week to exterior, and then wrapped it in carpet....haven't driven it far yet to test, but so far, no burned gas pedal leg!! great info....

well the more I looked into this, I ended up going the poor man's route! I bought a carpet/rug from walmart ($15) and a roll of foil insulation ($25) from Lowes and made my on housing cover. The top is simply a mexican blanket I already had that matches my existing green paint and red carpet! So far in this 100 degree Texas heat, it's made quite a difference!
not perfect, but effective!

Hamilton, that may be better at keeping engine heat out AND doghouse temps down!!! Never thought about applying it to the outside...

this is the hottest day so far here in North Texas and although the heat is still there a bit in the cab, it's tolerable. Not to mention, the exposed metal is all covered so when I accidentally brush my leg near the housing, I dont get burned!! It's pretty effective!
thanks Corey!
