The kicker is it only fell about 10" inches from the jack. Must have hit just right. The plan now is to find a junk 700r4 with a good housing and put the inner workings from my rebuild trans

Ohhhh Say it isn't so Chris!!! I feel your pain tho, we all have done something like that with one project or another. I would suggest using a trans jack when going back up with it tho. I know, buy one, use it once and it just sits in the corner next to the engine hoist for a while, but they are handy when you need them and can be useful when dropping rearends ect.
Glad to see you've got a positive note and are still pressing on. Better days ahead my friend, you have come along great with this build and it shows, I'm sure you'll get over this speed bump.
I've used this jack and works good for my use, about $79 at Harbor Freight.

might wanna strap that one to the jack? at 30, i would lift it into place buy hand, hold it their with my knees and one hand and bolt it up, all in a gravel/dirt drive. at 46, just putting it on the jack is a project. what will 60 be like?

Another option to help steady things , is as long as the DH is not there use a engine hoist and drop a strap around the bellhousing to help hold it up. works for me anyway and I got real good at the in and out on my tranny . Mad

I tack welded a 12" square plate to the floor jack and cargo straped it on. Redneck trans jack. Put studs in motor holes to align bell housing on the way in . Works great, no lifting for this bad back.
