Ok, cool. I told him to do that next. I'll let everyone know what happens! Thanks for all the tips.

Sounds like you found your problem.

It's always the simple things that bite the hardest.

Success!!!! (at least I think). His wife texted me this afternoon that he tried the tips about turning the caliper so the bleeder was turned to the top and it worked.....not that I had any doubts, of course. Although I have not seen this in person, I do believe that his problem is solved (he's been trying to figure it out for about 5 months off and on). So, again, I think all of the knowledgeable people here. I'll snap some pics of the caliper and the pickup when I get some time to get over to his garage.

Once I get my stuff together I'm going to start to restore my van. I'll post pictures of that as I go. I may blog it if I feel inclined. So get your noggins ready for questions.

What Dodge man said. the calipers are on the wrong side. just tipping them up to blead will work but they should be placed on the correct side so the bleeders are up.

Good work anyway, glad to see your persistence paid off.

your brakes will work without residual valves but they will work better and take less maintenance if you put them in. You need a 2lb for the disc circuit and a 10 lb for the drum circuit, they mount in the lines just outside the master cylinder. A proportioning valve retards the pressure going to the rear brakes only.
