Re: Door Locks
Only you can answer that question.
Are you willing to modify the body?
Can you design and make the linkages needed to make them work?
Here's what I have found.
The early style with the smaller cylinder is not reproduced, only the later type you got.
The early style is not designed to be rekeyed. It can be done, but you need a specialist. This means you need a full matched set or spend a bunch of money.
The front door linkages are mirror images and shallower than the side doors.
I just got a set from a van in the yard. I didn't remove the side door lock since I bought the whole door, but here are the others.
Left to right; Ignition, driver, rear, passenger. Side will be the same as the rear. I talked to a very nice guy about these, and he mentioned that the fronts are A-body style, the side/rear are C-body style. Again, it requires a savvy guy to make these all work with the same key if they aren't a set.

Re: Door Locks
OEM is easier, but try to find a complete set, including the ignition all keyed the same!!!
I've seen a couple listings for NOS 2 doors and ignition, but never seen a listing for all 5 van-specific cylinders.
Yes, you can try mixing and having a couple keys.
Yes, you can adapt later cylinders, provided the linkage arms can be made to work and you open up the hole.
You can just plug the side and/or back and lock and open from the inside.
You can find a locksmith of resto guy that is willing and able to do what's needed to make up a full set.
That's why I grabbed this set even though there wasn't a key. It's just tough to find a full set.
BTW, be CAREFUL when removing them. The linkage arms are just swedged on, and can easily be knocked off if you are rough.

Re: Door Locks
Same boat here. I bought two sets now. Thinking I could find the right one. Also thinking about drilling out the door holes. I am missing the lock linkage so trying to find that before I drill anything. Keep us posted

Re: Door Locks
This is an example of the later style that are easily rekeyed and available all over. They also have the cool keys. There are other later sets (70-71, 72-74, etc.) with different key styles.

Here's a listing for older (1950s) locks.
I was also told the earlier keys are different on the part that enters the lock (the slots on the sides), but these look pretty much the same.

If you do decide to use those later cylinders, please take pics and show us how you do it!

Re: Door Locks
The guy I talked to and will be sending my locks to decided to learn how to do this and is self-taught. A real Mopar guy from way back.
Once I have had mine done and can give you guys feedback and with his permission, I'll let you know who it is and what it cost. You can also check locally for the locksmith that can do more than just copy a key. Make sure you trust that they know how to reassemble and swedge the lock properly.
If you look at the pic of mine, you can see the access plate is not made to be removed. The later ones like the picture from the Ebay auction have light tin covers that are fairly easy to remove and replace.

Re: Door Locks
i have taken these locks apart and "rekeyed" them in the past. the difference from then and now is the shape of the internals. the older versions have actual tumblers as they were refered to and the newer ones the key actually passes through the center of them. length of the tumbler denotes the number, 1 thru 5 . they are quite simple as was all things "early". and who would know if you took all the tumblers out and left them out to make the older cylinders work.!!! there is a lot of older dodges around here with "missing" parts in the door locks and ignition cylinders. just sayin................

Re: Door Locks
Of course on my 8 door there is one lock missing. Do the 67s have the late model locks? It has the late front doors on it but 67s seem to have a mix of early and late stuff. Don

Re: Door Locks
By 'late' I mean Mopars in general. I think they switched about 1966. The vans and I'd take a wild guess the trucks continued to use the early style through 1970. Those locks I have are from a 1970 van.
