Door locks? No locks? Empty Door locks? No locks?

Post by LittleDoheny Mon May 05, 2014 6:43 pm

Hello, told you I would be asking questions... affraid

I have locks on the 2 doors however no key with those, does anyone have a suggestion what to do? Because if I order the locks, that may not solve my problem, correct? What I mean is I might be missing the inside parts? Don't know, also are they easy to replace or is this getting too complicated?

On the side door, there is a hole, once again should I order standard locks from that "geek" site, or will I have to know how to fix the parts inside the door?

Any suggestions, or ideas that other members have utilized?

just ordered my locks from standard automotive products. the part number is
    DL7
they are around 14 bucks for a pair of two locks. they are keyed alike. so , you will need two sets to fit your 4 doors. you will need to use the ends off of the original locks. they just have a clip that comes off and you can switch them easily. you should be able to reach inside the side and rear doors, to reach the back of the locks and see how the mechanism moves. it just moves up and down. push the inner assembly down and your door will lock. try the handle. you might have to mess with it and see how it works.
the front doors are similar, but you will need to remove the door and window handles and the metal panel on the inside of the door. you will see inside there a little better how the lock meets the internal parts. it's super simple how theyre made. my sportvan had lock knobs on the side door, where my regular van doesn't have them.
I hope this helps a little.

Hello! Here to resurrect this thread. Anyone have any pictures of the lock set up? I am going to order new locks for my 108 but not sure if I am missing the interior parts. Thank you

I have pictures of locks - one thing check if any of you existing door locks have a 4 character code stamped on them.  If so, you can have keys made to that number.  You can also get the other locks (i.e. previous replacement) re-keyed to that code.
PM me with email address if you want photos.

Thank you Donni... is that the cargo door? is the lock cylinder longer than the passenger and side door locks?

You got a key cylinder, it gets  a gasket on it and a horse shoe clip holds it into the door, then the cylinder has a finger that rides in the U shaped channel of the latch and moves that piece up and down to lock and unlock the latch, peek or feel in the door for that u shaped arm. all your doors should have that setup,,,,,,,on our 1st Gens, there is no outside lock on the front doors, the cylinder in the handle just stops the button from being pushed in to open the door,,,,,,and the worst thing about our inside handle is if you push the handle forward after pulling it back to get out, it locks the door and the ONLY WAY to open that door is to pull the handle back, you cant get in from the outside,,,that has caused me a lot of misery, you better have another door that opens to crawl in.....
