The key for my 64 was lost before I bought the van. Can the lock cylinders be bought new? I will need all of them. Thanks for any info,Brad

Re: 1st Gen Door locks?
I have the same problem (I have 1st gen doors on my '67) I have no keys for the front doors(key hole in the push button on the handle). The locks on the cargo doors I just replaced with locks that I pulled out of a s10 blazer. Been wondering this myself...would a locksmith be able to make new keys for the front doors????

Re: 1st Gen Door locks?
There is a code stamped on the back of the lock cylinder,,,,,,a Locksmith can make a key for maybe $10,,,,,,,hopefully the ignition uses that same key,,,,,,,,

All the doors and the ignition use the same key on my '64. Take one of the locks into your locksmith and have him make a key... if your locks and ignition are all original, the keys should be the same!

Re: 1st Gen Door locks?
I have a key making machine with the code book for the settings. The 4 digit code is stamped on the door locks, side and front doors. The 65 and earlier use the same key for everything, unless the ignition has been changed. I have made some keys for my vans.

Re: 1st Gen Door locks?
Keyed my left and right front doors to match my new ignition key. They weren't too tough as I didn't care about getting every tumber back in. (Come on, anybody with a similar old key would be welcome in my van). Anyway, I don't have a clue how to rekey the side and back door locks. Seem to have some sort of press fit chrome cap on them that would get ruined if removed. Can they be rekeyed too or is that something I would need to replace and get used to having yet another key. If so, a part number would be huge.
Thanks for this, Mark

Re: 1st Gen Door locks?
Well if you love that ignition key so much, a locksmith can read its code, pop the chrome bezel off the side and rear door cylinders with a tool that does not destroy it, and make your ignition key fit the side and rear doors. Or bring him a side door cylinder, checking that the rear door has the same code on it and then making a key AND making that key fit the ignition by changing its tumblers,,,,,,

Re: 1st Gen Door locks?
Unless Gotavan does the key cutting for hire, I guess I'll take my rear & side door locks to a locksmith (would be happy to mail them somewhere) if any reccommendations?
Of course, I have yet to figure out how to get the wood panel off my rear door to get to the lock. I'm sure I can pull them out from the center yet I don't want to ruin them as the are pretty perfect and would like to be able to reuse them. Any suggestion there too?
Happy holidays to all, Mark
