Fuel Filler Hose Size?
Went to the gas station the other day and nticed that the filler neck to tank hose is now leaking. My local parts store is useless on this van, I did a search and couldnt find the info. Anyone know the I.D. of the neck to tank rubber hose?

Re: Fuel Filler Hose Size?
I am fortunate to have a large stock of all sizes of hose but what I did in the past was to get a small cheep rad hose of the right diameter and cut it to fit. Most auto suplly people will look in thier stock with a measuring tape in hand to get what you need. The rad hose material is neoprein It will probobly out last the van.
I remember the hose being a not so popular size. I think Donivan is right about it being 1 and 3/8".

Re: Fuel Filler Hose Size?
I picked up a 1 1/2" piece of filler hose and tried to get it to work on my van with not good results. Its almost impossible to crush wire reinforced hose to 1 3/8". So me being the anal one that I am and wanting to replace the hose with what was ment to be there started on a quest to find the right size hose to fix Ester.
Ok......after a bunch of research I found a manufacture who makes a 1 3/8" ID fuel filler hose. The problem is finding someone who has it in stock and who will sell it to you in any length shorter than 100'. Well I found them and they have a 6 foot section of this hose, which is presently being packed and shipped to me. Is anyone else interested in a piece, I will be getting it next week sometime?
Are you ready for the price.......................................how bout $12 a foot!!! Just a little cheaper than the local parts store, HUH? And its even the right size!

So was that 1 1/2" hose that would not seal right from Napa?

Kowboy,
I have just replaced mine a week ago. I found it at NAPA (Hose 607) for $12 foot as well but they waived the tax.. (For farm use ) so got it for $9ish but just glad they had it!!! Even if they said it was $20, I needed it and wasn't leaving without it. It was the fourth place I looked and I wasn't picky...

Not from Napa, but my local parts store. It works as long as I dont top it off, but I'm not happy with that. I just cant seem to get the clamps tight eough before they strip.

I think braided hose is more for hydraulic fluid systems and I guess that the steel braids don't like being compressed, even if is only 1/16". But the Napa seems to get the job done.....but lets see what your new stuff turns out to be,,,,,,

Its not steel braided, its laced with steel or woven in the rubber.

Re: Fuel Filler Hose Size?
I bought the 1 1/2" fuel hose from CarQuest and I feared it wouldn't squish down, but Don assured me it would. And it did. I used the old stock clamps and they had no problem tightening the hose down. But this hose did not have wire in them. Sounds like you're using radiator hose or stronger (hydraulic?) like Donivan said. I think the gas will be bad on the radiator hose.
I haven't actually filled the tank up all the way yet, but it sure looks like it sealed up.
I just took this photo and noticed the clamps are already rusting!! They cleaned up so nice on the wire wheel... I assumed they were some rust-resistant metal since they were still decent after all these years. Could the wire wheel have removed some coating? Doesn't help that the van is parked in the driveway near a salt water bay! I guess I need to paint them if I want them to stay nice. No big deal on the big hose, since it's easy to slip on and off, but that smaller breather hose was a real pain to get on. Really tight.

Re: Fuel Filler Hose Size?
The bypass hose is 1/2"......that normally is the easy hose to put on it unless you are trying to put 3/8" hose on it.......or you bought hose that is 10 years old

Re: Fuel Filler Hose Size?
Maybe it was a little of both! Or maybe the new coats of paint on everything. I was not able to get the breather hose pushed all the way on the tank! It's on far enough though.
Someday I'll be able to drive this van and take it to a gas station to fill up the tank and see if it leaks!

To Mountain Cowboy:
As I'd hate to leave you hanging with all that hose, please send me a piece and where to send the money and how much of it with shipping (low, slow and cheap is fine for me).
Thanks, Mark

I also used 1 1/2 hose from CarQuest and it's been working fine. I fill up all the time and have not seen any leaks.

Re: Fuel Filler Hose Size?
I have a lead on buying this Gates hose at gates.com/brochure.cfm?brochure=5076&location_id=5246 the first one is 1 3/8. It's over $15 a foot and you have to buy a 10 foot piece so I'll have plenty left over.

Re: Fuel Filler Hose Size?
I got the correct 1 3/8 inch hose, all 10 feet of it. It's Gates and made in the USA. If anyone needs some I'll sell it at my cost plus shipping, $15 a foot, or if you just need one 4 inch section, $10.
