Like on my Chevy,,,,,there was a valve in the doghouse on the waterpump,,,,turn it 20 times to shut off the heater,,,,,,,,too much work for me,,,,,,so I buy a choke cable, mount it under the glovebox, slap an inline valve in the hose along the frame on top of the bellypan,,,,,,

I had this on one of my heater lines in the Merc, not that I think more about it... so you had to open the doghouse to regulate the heater temp. But mine had got into the fan too... don't really like this control. It would work in a pinch though...

Apparently the gasket my dad made was blocking off the valve to the core. The material in combination with silicone was swelling shut. He replaced that material and has heat, front and rear! Thank you again for your replies.

The valve on the kid's '63 is gutted and the heater works great.
