Removed mine due to rust and in the process of trying to replace it with another one. Ran around to some part stores today and it looks like they only offer a plastic one. Of course they didnt have any instock and was just looking at the picture, looks cheap to me. Has anybody else replaced theirs? where did you get it and how is it working out? I can run without it but would really want to get one installed before it starts to get warm here( and no thats not trying to make a joke)

Re: Heater Control Valve
I just recently replaced my metal one with a plastic one from orieleys auto parts. I have read reviews/threads that people are happy with them. No issues reported.

Re: Heater Control Valve
Not meaning to hijack this thread, but it just dawned on me that I don't have any heater controls on my new 61 Econo Pickup. First question---where is this valve normally located? Next question, could one of you guys please post a pic of a 61/62 dash with heater controls. See, my dash had been hacked by the previous owner. They had installed some 2'x2' electric control panel from the Starship Enterprise to control everything. I just ripped that stupid thing out to put the truck back to some approximation of original. Right now the truck is completely gutted, prepping the body for paint. I have this huge hole in the dash where the controls probably went---I was planning on welding it up, but I may need to re-think that.

Re: Heater Control Valve
61-64 Econolines had a self contained heater that bolted to the floor. The heater valve was mounted on the lower right corner and the blower motor switch on the lower left. Had a lever to control airflow.
No controls on the dash. The valve inside the box is hard to find and expensive when you do. You can see the floor vents coming out the side of the box. The hoses coming out the top of the box go to the defrosters.

Re: Heater Control Valve
Duane, from your picture, I see 2 knobs on the heater box. Is the left for fan control and the right knob to control this valve everyone is talking about. You say the valve we're talking about is actually inside the heater box. My heater box is missing both knobs. Again guys, not trying to hijack the thread, but this is a perfect time for me to get this heater deal figured out.
Thanks Mike

Re: Heater Control Valve
The valve they are talking about is different than this one. Their system, the 65-67 heater, uses an inline valve that goes in the hose under the floor. It has a cable that goes up to the dash to control it. 61-64 heaters are a completly different system and nothing interchanges between the two. 61-64 heaters use a special valve made to fit inside the heater box. The temp control knob connects directly to the valve. The left knob controls the fan speed.

Re: Heater Control Valve
Anyone ever try or know if this cable will work on the heater? The one I have now is strange and doesn't look like it belongs and since I'm redoing the heater, wanted something nicer. Also I'm having trouble finding a new Fan/on/off switch bezel for the left side of the heater.

Re: Heater Control Valve
I just put together the heater unit for my 62. I was able to find the valve at a good price and was lucky the core was good with no leaks. Still need to find the fan switch. I know I had it but where I put it????
First pic is the old valve followed by new valve on core, then in unit and then sitting in van.
Hope this helps. If you dont have the heater unit there is or was one on e-bay but you may want to go with the 65-67 unit.
