Tire Size Help Empty Tire Size Help

Post by Guest Mon Aug 10, 2009 12:31 pm

Hey guys, thanks for the help in advance.

My a108 currently has 15 inch Cragar SS wheels, front is 15x7, rear is 15x8.

    Tires on there currently

    Front P205/60/15
    Rear P255/60/15

I was trying to figure out what size to replace with. I want more of a rake, for aerodynamics.

For the rear, not sure if 275 is too wide, if 50 will look to small in the wheel well..

    275/ 50 or 60 / 15

For the front .... dunno =S

    Your expertise would be appreciated.

50's are wider than 60's, and a 275-50 is most likely the same height as your 255-60. Easiest thing to do is take a tape measure and see how tall your current tire is, 29", 30" whatever, then go to the summitt site and mickey thompsons are measured in inches for hieght. If I remember right the tallest one I was looking at was 33" and you could go from 10" wide on up depending on the clearence you have .

On my dodge I put 275/60/15 on the rear and they fill the wheel opening nicely!
The front I put 225/70/15 but I had to trim down the corners of the wheel opening.

The 50 or 60 part of the tyre size is the percentage of the width so a 275/50/15 should be roughly 138mm tall in the sidewall , hope this helps,

BTW, a nice rake actually presents a larger frontal area, which decreases aero.
I always like a nose down attitude too.

    Tire Size Help 111-1110
The wheelie bars are borrowed from my other car.....This tire set-up looks and works well, but I have to angle the seats back a bit so I don't feel like I am falling out the front.....

Sorry to bring up an old post, but i'm at the point in the project where I'm about to buy tires.  Here is a mock-up pic with an old tire from my caravan mounted on the wheel i'm using:

    Tire Size Help Van_ti11

The above tire size is 215/70 R15. The van is jacked up with no engine.

My local Big O tire guy (and owner of an older Econoline) suggested a 225/70 R15 should be fine, but I'm worried because Slimtronn stated he had to trim the wheel well.
Both tire sizes I mentioned are the same height, but the 225's are just wider.
On the pic above, there is a 1.5 inch space between the tire and wheel well.

Slimtronn, how much did you have to trim?
    Any comments are appreciated.
    thanks
Edit: the pic was cropped so you can't see the space from the tire to the well, but it's 1.5 inches
