    Tire size??? Empty Tire size???

Post by gkpost Tue Jun 05, 2012 11:44 am

I've got a 67 and picked up some old American racing wheels. I need to know the right size tire to put on the rear 15 x 11 1/2 wheels. I'm going to be using air shocks any advice on those will help also
As always thanks for any help. Pictures coming soon. ~ GK

I am running 225-70R-15's on 8 inch corvette rally's so I would say that you would probaly need to run 60's on them.

It all depends on the look you are going for! If you like the big fat tire in the rear look... then go for 295/50r15 which will fit fine on your wheels. Sounds like your rims are very wide.

The rims are very wide and I'm not looking to turn $350 worth of tires into shreds. Just want to make sure, before make mi$take

if you are patient on Craigslist, you can usually find tires used... try on a used set, make sure its the size you truly want before you buy new

Are you looking for tires to fit the rims, or fit in the wheelwell?

11 1/2" wide rims will not put the tire inside the wheelwell, no matter what size tire you get.

There really is not any normal street radial tire size that is recommended for rims that wide. You might want to look for different wheels.

If you want to keep your wide rims, 325/50r15 drag radials call for a 9" to 11" wide wheel, so you might look at those... but be warned, they are not cheap! I have a couple mounted on a set of 15x10 centerlines and I love em! My wheels have 4" backspacing and the tires stick out beyond the fenders about 2", but I'm OK with that

This is a 295/50R15 on an 8 1/2" wide rim. I think 10" is about as wide as you can go with these.
