Leaking Windshield Fix? Empty Leaking Windshield Fix?

Post by Scott Wed Jul 28, 2021 6:56 am

    Any Ideas?

I just had the window channel repaired, and the windshield replaced with a new gasket. Now, in the first rain it leaked at the top. I don't want to start right in rusting this new channel, and don't like the water on the dash either.

I overhead someone at Van Nationals saying the old vans didn't need glue on their window seals, which I don't know why they wouldn't, but I wonder if that the person putting in my window thought the same thing.

I am hoping I can find a glue / sealer that I can put into a syringe. I should be able to drag the needle between the rubber seal and body, injecting as I pull it across.

Any idea how to fix this, or something I could use?

Could be water sneaking in from drip rail seam from rear,,,,how about spray soap on gasket and use air or leaf blower on inside to see if you get bubbles on outside to pinpoint problem,,,,,

I sealed the drip real a while back, but I will check it. I was a little skeptical of it in a few places. Also, the body shop was doing some welding on the top of the rear door frame, maybe they overheated the drip rail seem sealer.

Plan B is the calk along the top windshield seam.

Oh, that and I contacted the body shop that put it in to see what they say. Really it should be on them to fix, but I am not happy with their work so far and don't want to take it back.

    Thanks for your help..

Pretty sure there was bedding in there. That primordial ooze, black butyl stuff should do it. You can get it at NAPA. Glue might cause some grief, I've heard, because these bodies flex a lot more than the new vehicles, and you could snap the glass.
