    speedometer dilemma Empty speedometer dilemma

    Post by michael. Sat Oct 19, 2019 7:31 am

    I have a '69 A100 6 cyl. 3 speed, stock 3.91 gears and a 28" tire. I am in the process of changing the rear from 3.91 to 3.23. Using this conversion table http://www.mymopar.com/speedometer.htm it appears I need a 31 tooth gear. HOWEVER, using the same table, it seems I should have a 37 tooth gear in there now assuming my speedometer is accurate, and according to my GPS, it's pretty close.

    The gear I removed only has 15 teeth, factory part# 2235429 15. Not even listed on the chart.

    What am I missing?

    i think the chart you are using is for a automatic ,
    if you are running a 391 gear that would be for a 3 speed ,(manual)
    if you are moving to a 323 rear gear that is for a automatic

    Yes, it is a stick. I thought the chart was the same for auto or stick. The picture I posted IS the driven gear, no?  I haven't tried anything yet. Didn't want to spend $30 on the wrong gear. So if I'm reading the chart wrong, and it's not 31 tooth, what gear do I need for 3.23 rear, 28"tire, standard shift?

    Yeah, it appears the chart I was looking at was for automatics. The gear I took out was 15 teeth steel. looks like I need a steel gear with about 13 teeth. If anybody has one, let me know. till then I'll keep an eye on ebay.

    Thanks, Mike

    just throwing darts but my guess is any mopar with a 273 / 318 v8
    with a 3 speed from 60,s or 70's would get you closer to your goal, i'd
    sugest a old private owned tranny shop

    Are you sure you have a wheel height of 28"? IIRC my 79' B-Van based Camper with 16.5" rims and 8.00x16.5 tires has that height...?

    Hi;

    If all else fails you might consider GPS app for smart phone, if you need to stay within speed limit parameters.
