I've never seen an 8 door chevy before. Another thing odd is it has 'chevy van' emblems, not sportvan.

This maybe the Holy Grail of Chevy vans??? It might be the only one that was special ordered from the factory???? It maybe a 64 that why the emblems are differant???

Billy emailed me asking about how to identify his van and where to get some parts. He says he thinks it's a 64 or 65 Chevy. So I start asking him to describe it, he says its got windows and doors on both sides. So I am thinking its an 8 door Ford,,,,,or maybe a Corvair,,,,,but I send him a SportVan picture and he says thats what he got except more doors. The battery is inside. But the VIN says its a 66 panel Van,,,,,,,,it has the 66 grille, door emblems, back up lights and glass in it. Real SportVans don't say Chevy Van on them. So this surely is one of a kind,,,,,,Special Order??,,,,,,Leftover SportVan Parts? Looks like we got something new to look forward to while Billy rebuilds it.

1st Gen 8 door Empty van

Post by Guest Mon Jun 08, 2009 4:07 pm

hello vannish. lets see. i traded a jap made scooter for a 1974 amc gremlin. was going to fix up, but the guy i traded with wanted it back so thats how i ended up with this van. he told me as soon as i got it fixed up he wanted it back also, but i dont think he will ever own this one again. the van engine was rebuilt 2 years ago, but the carburator needs rebuilding, so waiting on kit and new float. the old van has hardly no rust though at all, just the surface rust you see . it has a 3 speed on colum, that is tight for its age. dont know at this point what color i will paint it. i will be posting more pictures later. i dont know much about the van, but the guy i traded with said, he had never seen one that had doors on both sides. this could be one of those johnny cash was singing about. ONE PIECE AT A TIME. billy

billy in Chevy van world you have got to have one of the rarest vans out there. Don't sell it. Restore that baby for more vanners to see. We all have been talking about a 8 door for years and never saw one. All of us who have been in this a while thought they never made one. That how rare it is.

P.S. Welcome to the forum and Thank You for the pictures of your van.

Welcome to the board Billy. Do you know if your van was ever listed on E-bay( maybe a year or two ago)? I think I remember seeing an 8 door listed but everyone thought it was probably a mod instead of factory. I think it was in Alabama.
Great looking van and extremely rare. Keep the pic's coming.

hey wide load. this could be the van on ebay you seen. my buddy jammie that i got it from had listed it i know at least one time. the reason i know, we was talking about it and he told me that he listed it as a 1960. he was going by the date on the tail light lens and someone emailed him and told him that chevrolet did not make a g-10 van in 1960. so more likley the same van you seen. billy
