    Wiring help Empty Wiring help

Post by brentchaffin Sat Apr 28, 2018 8:31 am

Ok so I’ve tried to look the the few wiring diagrams I’ve seen but I am having some tail light issues. So I bout my van and it was a tangled mess of wires under the dash. Some cut, some unhooked and some new ones added. All I had was some turn signals. I got my tail lights working which seemed to make my right turn signal stop working. Now for the life of me I can’t seem to get my brake lights working. Does anyone have a good wiring diagram or shed some light on what I need to check. Any help is appreciated.

You can start at the master cylinder,,,,,find the brake light switch,,,,,,see that you got juice at one of the wires and see that they are clean and tight,,,,,,,if you got voltage to one of them, connect the 2 wires together,,,,,,that sends a signal up to the turn signal switch for it to turn on the brake lights,,,,,,see what you get,,,,,,,,,

Cool I found a couple pics of the diagram that are helpful. I’ve installed a new switch at the master cylinder. Neither wire has power to it. I am trying to figure out now what wire supplies the power. I’m also in the process of checking the condition of the tail lights and bulbs. It looks like the bulbs aren’t fitting in the tail light holder like the should. May be worth changing out the tail lights.

Yep I suspect that could have something to do with it. Where the bulbs mount in the tail lights is pretty messed up so I’m going to fix that then look at the fuse block as well.

Ok so the fuses on the headlight switch. Are there only 4 or is there supposed to be a fifth fuse? The above pic only has 4 and mine has 4 but it looks like there is a spot to put a fifth one.

My '65 headlight switch didn't have anything in that slot. Here's a pic from the manual. Funny that it does seem to show a short little fuse there, but doesn't say what it's for....

Ya only one side of that fuse holder is in my block but it has power to it. Not sure what it’s for.

Doesn't look like mine ever had anything there. However in small print on the case are the letters CLK. Got to wonder if there's a very rare Econoline out there with a factory Clock. Very Happy

It's the "Green W/Yel Tracer" the goes to the Stop Light Switch, but changes to Red before it gets to the switch; according to the wiring diagram...

Maybe this will help...If you can read my writing. That yellow wire at top used to be green with a yellow stripe. It goes to the stop light switch. The main battery cable comes in under that fuse in the picture, and supplies power to everything, including the empty clock slot (which you can ignore).

Cool, definitely gives me something to go on. My taillight bulb mounts were blown out and not really holding the bulbs properly. Got new taillights coming in this week. I will make sure the fuse block is all sorted out and get my new taillights in and see what happens.

I put new gauges in and was looking for a way to wire the lights for them. I see the gauge light wire comes out of there also. Very informative picture. Thanks a ton.
