Hey, take a close look at the van in this ad. I do believe I see a horizontal door latch sticker!

And did you know that you could get an optional auxiliary front seat in our vans?! Very Happy

I've often wondered at what angle the handles on the inside of the cargo doors were mean to be installed. I just looked at all of my GM literature, including the owner's manual, and I see the same angle as shown in this ad. Looks like the idea is to have the handle be straight up when the door is shut and latched.

Now I see what's going on with the white trim on the cargo door in this photo! I thought it had a removable panel like the front door. It has the same raised "frame" around it. Finally, I had to go look at my cargo door. That "frame" is just stamped into the door metal, and on this red van, some clever person carefully masked off that area and painted it white! Even left an additional narrow margin, just like the removable front door panels. That is so darn clever!

I plan to redo the Deluxe vinyl interior in my van but who knows when that will get done. I believe I have a lot of leftover white from my paint job. I might just do this on my van!

Rich, I used UV ink like on bumper stickers but time will weather them. They came from the factory looking new. They should look nice on you shiny new paint job.

Door latch label Empty 66 Jacking Instructions

Post by VANagain Tue Apr 18, 2017 1:19 am

Then there's this photo of a 66 Sportvan Deluxe in Florida that was very original. It has the other kind of jack. The label I'm working on is from a 65 and my 65 owner's manual has pretty much the same illustration. Could you guys look at your manuals so we can compare the different years? Anyone got a 64 or 67-70?

It's held on with duct tape. Can't make out the drawing on this one but the whole label is different.

I received my labels. Awesome! One thing that bothers me is they are too new-looking! Smile Part of me wants to find a way to age them a bit, leave them out in the sun and rain maybe! Laughing

Here's a label I've been working on. It goes on the wall right above where you mount the jack.

Not sure where I got this photo from. If anyone has the remains of this sticker still in their van, I'd like to get its measurements.

    Door latch label Jack_i11

But then there is the other type of jack. Fits in the same holder if its mounted sideways. Anyone know what year this jack was used?

Alright Richie!! Very cool! I just PayPal'd you for a set of vertical stickers. I presume a set means two, one for the side door and one for the rear.

I like the vertical one even though the placement of the horizontal one makes more sense. The vertical sticker is impossible to read before you open the door. At least the horizontal one is visible to the passenger before they attempt to open the door. Of course the most practical placement would be on the outside of the door! rabbit

Hey, I'm very curious about that door panel in the photo of the horizontal sticker. I've never seen one like that before. Looks like the same style as the metal panel for the front door. Is this some other option I'm totally unaware of?! Or maybe it's from a Corvair van?

Yes, I scanned the photo someone posted, redrew the handles in Illustrator and used InDesign for the type. I am going to print a batch up, both horizontal and vertical soon. The labels on my 64 are faded and almost gone but are horizontal and on the inside of the passenger side doors beneath the handle. The vertical label was on the edge of the passenger side doors under the latch in the center. I can't post or see pictures on this computer, its a new iMac. It updated Java to 8 and all of the sudden it says "Your security settings have blocked an untrusted application from running". I can't see the pictures on this thread or others and won't give me the option to post either. Weird but trying to figure it out has been a nightmare. Everything it says to do doesn't work. Anyway, I will let you know when I have some printed.

Hey Richie, I just came across this post. This is really cool! I've never seen this sticker on any of our vans before. Obviously you have! And it's cool that you reproduced it! Did you use a program like Illustrator?

And this sticker could prove valuable. We all know that no one besides us owners knows the correct way to close these cargo doors! Slam it the wrong way and the "deadbolts" bash into the door frame paint. And they don't always know to turn the handle all the way into the locked position.

Did you end up making the vertical version? That's the one I would like. Where was the horizontal one located? I presume any interior panels would cover that one.

I am working on reproducing these door latch labels that were once on our vans for someone on VV.  Still in the planning stage but once I get it fine tuned I will make them available to anyone interested. There is also a vertical one I'm working on.
