    Hey..........

Did Chevy make pop out rear windows ( for rear doors) in their Flattie vans?

If so.....any idea where I might get a pair.

Need some ventilation in the rear of my 67.

So you want to drive around with the rear windows open to suck in all the carbon monoxide from the exhaust?????? Well let me tell you how I did mine,,,,,I made a Swing Out window out of a 85 GMC Vandura,,,,,,but any of the Pop Out windows on a SportVan will work in any side or rear door on a 1st or 2nd Gen,,,,,,,I have Pop Outs on my side doors and a Swing Out on my RR door,,,,,,

OK, bringing this thread back to life...... Getting ready to put in the back Pop-outs.

Question: Best position? Open at the bottom, inside or outside?

Seem to remember a discussion a couple of years back on the whole exhaust fumes coming in. My exhaust exits on the driver's side just in front of the rear tire.
Is the any position that is better than others?

    Dan

I'm getting ready to add rear popouts myself, I have side pipes that come out in front of the rear tires on each side. Hopefully I wont get exhaust fumes coming in with this setup?

I've got to do *something* to vent the inside of this rig in the summer time and i dont want to have to put in a rear sun roof Smile

Had the same exhaust problem with my 84 chev van- changed exhausts to exit on body sides and added a top of rear roof spoiler(station wagons ) used in 60-70's =kept the exhaust out and rear windows clean of road grit too.

Mike , Id think harder about putting that venturi vent ya have in ,, those things work really well. Its not tough if you dont have a lot of interior roof stuff in the way. an airsaw/jigsaw, die grinder/cutoff and a small MIG to make it a flat spot for it.

OK, let me rephrase the question.....

Who has rear pop-out windows? If so where is your exhaust located and do you have any fume issues?

    Thanks,
    Dan

Heres another issue with pop out's. Had them on a work van and you wouldn't believe the amount of dust that get sucked into the back.

Post by slowflapper Mon May 09, 2011 11:50 am

    Dan,
I put a pair of pop outs in the back of mine this weekend. I get a slight hint of exhaust right around 25mph, anything under or over that and it's good to go. I couldn't be happier, it moves more air through the cab than I hoped for, enough that you can feel it blowing on your back driving down the road.

It's just the ticket, it's going to be 90 degrees here on Wednesday, glad I got this done now. My van has side pipes that come out in front of the rear tires, if you have standard exhaust pipes coming out the back you can have them re-piped to exit in front of the rear tires without too much effort. Just taking it out the sides, even behind the tires, might be enough.

I used rubber window gasket from:
    here

McMaster Carr part number 1120A131 $1.65 per foot.

You can buy it by the foot either over the phone or in the shopping cart at checkout.

POP OUT REAR WINDOWS Empty Re: POP OUT REAR WINDOWS

    Post by ChevyVanMan1 Tue May 01, 2012 4:41 pm

As I've got pop outs all the way around and two are shattered and most have rusted frames am planning to to make frameless vents out of UV resistant Lexan/Plexiglass

Plan to make the front two and rear to open bottom to top for camping and such and keep the middle two opening sideways to suck air out of the cabin.

My exhaust, like factory, comes out in front of the rear wheel which churns alot of the exhaust up. However, since CO is "the silent killer" I would not wait to smell fumes as that might be too late. Any old vehicle I drive always has one or more windows open. I might get a little cold and wet here and there yet I've never fallen out over CO. I've got more time in old air cooled VW's were people are often falling asleep at the wheel. Usually they blame beer or pot yet I think it's CO. Those old exhaust heater are death.

Maybe, someday, if I ever get my van nicely sealed up then I'll be more worried. Right now there is so much air running everywhere I'm not too worried.

    Good luck!
