Post by JackeFriend Tue Feb 18, 2020 9:33 am

So my van is in the shop getting the Spa treatment. I learned some news about the work I had done at JBA Racing here in Kearney Mesa... The carburetor was not preforming as I thought a 4bbl should? It just did not giddy up when I stepped on it? Well it seems that the technician at JBA when routing the accelerator cable from the new Lokar gas pedal I had them install, he did it so it was not only rubbing on top of the brake line! It was short and would not give me the length needed to open the 4 bbl!
They are money hungry and have only time for FANCY cars who's owners spend thousands for JBA to add components... I had purchased the parts to have them install. The boss mentioned they don't make any money when customers bring in the parts!! Sorry I can't pay out the nose for the same parts I can buy from Summit or Jegs at 1/3 the cost as their marked up SAME PARTS.
So I left a poor review... the response was:
"if you would have let us know about the problem, we could have fixed it?" I responded "I usually do not re-check the routing of the carburetor cable when I have had it professionally installed?"
Well word to the next victim… Don't GO TO JBA Racing for any work to be done better than half ass. Or just check everything after you spend a few thousand and let them know if it's wrong... don't worry they will fix it! LMAO

Sorry to hear that Jacke. They probably just wanted to hurry up & take your $$$.
That's Part of the reason I do all my own work. (& I can't afford to pay anybody for anything)
Any good updates from the Van Spa???

That's a Bummer! With what they make on labor, I don't understand why they have to slam you on the parts too... Mad Evil or Very Mad

I think they charge whatever you will pay... if as many believe "they" know what parts are best, I guess you pay them what it costs. Some people have money to burn obviously or JBA would not have so many customers. But I will say the cars in the shop were very top end. So if you can afford it... I guess you don't care? I am not sure, because I can never afford it...LOL rip offs!
I am happy to be getting quality work done by a VCV specialist. Smile

I hope to get my baby back by end of May. She'll be turning and stopping like a new van! I hope no more van opportunities arise to interrupt the momentum.
How's it in your garage! New projects started?

Yes M1 Disc brackets. Of coarse I have them sand blasted and painted! Gotta be pretty!

I guess the project pictures process will be put out in it's entirety, rather than bit by bit? I am sure it is being documented for the guys to see. I just can't wait so I posted a picture!! LOL
This is so fun and important for my van reaching the next level.

I am glad I decided to do it all... eating beans for awhile, but beans can be tasty! bounce

So since I am without my van right now... I have been trying to be proactive. I found a vintage Chevy van jack and then found the spring and floor bracket to go with it. Now I need the lug wrench and I have a complete set.
I will need the instructions on how to assemble and properly use the jack. Also a visual of how to store it correctly. Both of these are available I believe other vanner's have had them printed?
I have seen the location where the jack goes, which is behind rear wheel on floor. GMC Jacke's van - Page 39 Jack_s10

Well the Disc brakes are almost complete... so next will be power steering addition. Also added a new Alternator and many other little upgrades all around. Including new hard gas lines...
I have to remember that the time away from the van is OK... because the outcome will be so fantastic. But with everything going on right now I would really like to at least sit in Goldie and listen to the sound system. Just prior to sending her off to the "Spa" for the works. I added a blue tooth switch box equalizer to my system. So I can go between the sound of a real old school 8-track then switch of a button I am blasting modern sounds that are so insane I cannot even sit in the van if it's turned up!! The 8-track although Retro to the max, is no match for my speaker system. It can't put out enough power to make the speakers reach a true quality sound level. So beware when I get the van back I will be deaf in no time! Very Happy

I needed a light under the lid of the doghouse. When the lid is open the ceiling light is blocked.
Do any of you have a under hood light? I wonder where is best place to attach it so as to get the light, but not be in the way when closed? I think in a regular car they are in the center of the hood? I cannot remember??

Yes indeed! Quite a Hot Wheels "Hoopty". I have been updated about progress, which is coming along
slower that we'd like...but delays are unavoidable in projects. The shop site is being upgraded, so there is a couple week interruption. What can I do... nothing Smile
I will be a good little owner and wait patiently. Good things come to those who wait. bounce I have  patience the size of a Gnats ass! LOL

The Disc brakes are about completed. Also re-routed the emergency brake cable correctly. I had routed it originally. need I say more  Razz it only held if I was on a flat area! LOL
But, thanks to the eye for detail everything is correctly positioned and works! I was able to keep my slotted Mags 14" in the front with a little grind on the caliper. So the stance will not change after all. I had thought I might have to go 15's in front, glad not! I like the 14's in front and the 15's in the back Old School. Basketball queen

That clip was very funny! Horses are amazing creatures. Much more ability physically than any other animal. 270 degree vision doesn't hurt either. They have the largest heart and lungs. which enables their feats of strength and muscle. I used to have a Stallion... a mustang I adopted when I was 18. I guess I was always on the end of something! Now it's the van. Well I can handle that I believe Laughing

Post by JackeFriend Wed Apr 29, 2020 7:13 pm

So since my van is still getting it's SPA treatment... I am not only lonely I am terrible BORED? Have to sit at home, can't even drive my van.

Anyway, I started a project. I have an old family 1962 Honda C110 50cc Scooter. It has not run or been driven in about 30 years.
I tried to have a professional repair shop work on it... but they declined and offered me a number for one in great shape for just $1600! Hmmm no thanks I have one to fix?
So after trying a mechanic from craigslist who charged $80 just to look at the scooter, then could not estimate what time it might take to repair? I realized that I would be alone in the attempt to fix the old sad scooter...however futile.

Well one thing about me, I do not give up. I started reading about the engine a simple 4 stroke Honda! Single cylinder pretty straight forward, Iron engine. Then I watched YouTube videos about rebuilding engines on Honda scooters... a couple of months went by while I watched and read.

Finally, I removed the old engine... never worked on a motorcycle before.  Cleaned the frame, chrome and the entire dirty stinky bike. Then I took apart the carb and removed the accelerator cable, then the clutch cables which were both frozen.
I used tricks from YouTube... unstuck the cables with a bottle with oil and a whole in a bottle top. Stuck in the cable turned over the bottle like an IV it did the trick after a couple hours of drip, drip. The cable moved and worked fine!
Bought a used C110 Brake lever replaced it and rebuilt the perch. Fixed the front brake lines. I bought OEM shocks installed them. Tires and tubes come next. But I will have to get those done at a shop. But the spoke rims are tight and they cleaned right up.
I am going to rebuilt the original motor myself.

But, before I take on that project... I bought a new professionally rebuilt C110 Honda engine! I am going to install the engine onto the bike tomorrow... I will just need a new seat once I get the scooter running again.

Then it is 1962 ALL OVER AGAIN BABY! affraid affraid Basketball

Before Jacke cleaned the SAD 1962 Honda C110 Sports Cub:

I need a new seat next and some tires! Then I will be on the road again! cheers
