318 Crate Motor? Empty 318 Crate Motor?

Post by tommyfogarty Tue Dec 08, 2015 10:51 pm

Anyone know of a source for remanufactured 318 short blocks?? I know that Summit and Jegs have "407" motors, but I believe that they start as 360s, which has different engine mounts, etc. I really just want a clean, well put together 318. Anyone??

    Thanks!

318's & 360's have the same engine mounts locations on the blocks, even the later magnums will bolt into early models, not sure if that includes the 318 Poly's.

Is it not true that one side of the 360 will not mount up without fabrication of a new mount and mount location?

    1. Left side motor mount tabs are different on 340-360 and magnum engines.
    2. 360s are externally balanced (offset weights on balancer and flywheel/flexplate).
    3. 360 and magnum engines have a larger rear main that requires a different oil pan.

If you want just a simple rebuilt stock long block, check with a local store that you are sure will be around for any warranty issues.

Not exactly, A/B bodied cars do not count for mounting. Yes the right side engine bracket needs another corner added to work on the magnum, but when the brackets are flipped just add a corner (picture below) The stock A100 motor mount will work although I find it too high so I used a later model one, only have a pictures of the original mount but it shows that they fit into the same hole on the frame bracket. So yea you have to do a little mod but not much in order to slip in a later magnum engine.
