Broken Z-Bar Clutch Bracket Empty Broken Z-Bar Clutch Bracket

    Post by ac95 Wed Jun 03, 2015 10:54 pm

While driving my 1967 panel van(3 spd Manual) I began having difficulty shifting into gear. Made it home and upon inspection I discovered that the Z-Bar Clutch bracket, where it connects to the bell housing, had broken by one of the two bolts. I assume this is the issue since the bracket is flexing all over the place when the the clutch pedal is pushed down. My questions are: Where can i find this part? any tips on the replacement of the part?

Well,,,,,,,you can take it off and have it welded,,,,,,,,if the ball is loose, you can put a bolt with washers on it to fix that problem,,,,,,

A weld sounds simple enough. I'll check the ball stud as well. Thanks again donivan65.

make sure the front big bolt that holds the bracket to the engine is there and its spacer,,,,,,,see that the transmission and 2 motor mounts are good since it seems that something is loose causing that bracket to flex and break,,,,,,also check the other ball joint on that cross shaft where it connects to the frame,,,,,,

I'm having trouble posting pictures and I just tried to PM ac95 and it keeps saying I timed out. How's $30 for the bracket and shipping?

Update: took off the bracket and broken tab. No engine bolt, so it was only held by the two bell housing bolts. Welded the tab back on. Inspected the rest of the assembly and it was all good. Reassembled and added the engine bolt and washer spacers as recommended. Shifts nice and smooth again. Thanks for the help donivan.
