Stanyon, is it an issue with the starter or with the bellhousing? The starter you have looks pretty small there, hard to see what's going on exactly. Is it bolted up to the head and just touching the starter or is the starter keeping the header from being bolted on all the way?
I got a smaller starter for my 250 that was oem for early 90's F-150's w/ the 300 and AOD hoping it would help with the header clearance. But if it's the bellhousing that's in the way I'm hosed anyway. The head when mounted on a 250 is around 1.5" higher as well, not sure if that will help or hurt me. I was planning on trying these headers, now I'm not so sure.
I don't think you'd want to do it hooked to the new engine, but if you had a spare lying around... maybe bolt up the header and try and slowly bend it out a touch with a port-a-power against the edge of the collector flange and a sturdy part of the block with pieces of wood at the foot for a load spreader and to keep from marring anything on the header flange end. if it didn't twist the head flange it could work, maybe... maybe not. Even if it did slightly deform the head flange between the bolts you could have it resurfaced if bending it worked otherwise.
