I ordered a set of the headers off E_BAY and they look great, mounting is good BUT they will not clear the starter on a late 200 ( 1979 thru 1982) with out some serious modification such as cutting and re-welding or bending of the rear collector and its three down tubes. They may work on a Hi starter engine with out any issues.

Tried clocking the starter, but even if it were possible it still would not clear the starter.

I have ran into this issue with the "Block Hugger" headers on a couple of my big block Chevy projects easiest way out besides sending them back is to buy a mini high torque starter and then you will have plenty of room ..!!!..JMO..

Stanyon, is it an issue with the starter or with the bellhousing? The starter you have looks pretty small there, hard to see what's going on exactly. Is it bolted up to the head and just touching the starter or is the starter keeping the header from being bolted on all the way?

I got a smaller starter for my 250 that was oem for early 90's F-150's w/ the 300 and AOD hoping it would help with the header clearance. But if it's the bellhousing that's in the way I'm hosed anyway. The head when mounted on a 250 is around 1.5" higher as well, not sure if that will help or hurt me. I was planning on trying these headers, now I'm not so sure.

I don't think you'd want to do it hooked to the new engine, but if you had a spare lying around... maybe bolt up the header and try and slowly bend it out a touch with a port-a-power against the edge of the collector flange and a sturdy part of the block with pieces of wood at the foot for a load spreader and to keep from marring anything on the header flange end. if it didn't twist the head flange it could work, maybe... maybe not. Even if it did slightly deform the head flange between the bolts you could have it resurfaced if bending it worked otherwise.

What about some 1/2 inch flat plate spacers plates between the header and the block to move the header out that much to clear the starter and still fit inside your floor cut out? Or would that create to many surfaces to try and seal up. One gasket on block, then a second gasket between spacers and header? jm2c.E_BAY HEADERS Manifo10

Thanks to everyone for the ideas, the starter is the small starter, yes Seth it is the bell housing as well as the starter that are interfering. I tried the porta power and gained the
1-1/2 inches I needed but after releasing the porta power the pipes came back to the original position. I will measure it tomorrow Seth and see if the added height you have will help, as fore the spacers I would have to reform the right side of the Dog House with a bulge that will interfere I think with the passenger seat. Next option is to heat up the pipes and then use the porta power to see if I can persuade them to move over and stay put.
