Re: headers for 200
What rpm range Steve?
If you want off-idle torque the stock exhaust
manifold provides the necessary back pressure
to maintain efficiency. If you want peak power
at higher rpm's then headers will provide that
for you. Of course you can get good off idle
torque with headers but several other things will
be needed to be done to the engine...

Re: headers for 200
if you do get headers have them Jet Hot Coated. Headers put out 900-1000 degrees of heat but when jet hot coated they only put out 450-500 degrees thus less heat in the doghouse

Re: headers for 200
Im right there with you, started a thread a few weeks ago about maybe buying some Clifford Performance headers. They are not cheap.
I am wanting to put headers on my 65 200ci for the sound and a little more horse power.
If I could get a decent sound out of my manifold with a better exhaust Id probably stay with that, but at the moment it sounds like shit.
Is there a good setup using the stock manifold that will give you the hot rod sound?

Re: headers for 200
you can go with a split exhaust and use Delta Force single chamber racing mufflers and get a pretty god sound but you can't beat those clifford headers

Re: headers for 200
I had a Œ65 with a 200 and Clifford Headers. The biggest thing I remember was that I could up shift a little early and the engine did not bog down. It did sound really cool.
I remember notching the floor flange that stuck into the dog house and hammering the dog house a little out of shape to make them fit.
That was 25 years ago!!

Re: headers for 200
Clifford headers fit on a 200 now and do not require any mods to the dog house
