Best to slide a piece of 1/4" nylon sheet or some other plastic or anything that does not absord moisture. and just glue it to the sheet metal with Sicaflex or any maisure proor caulking.

Are you saying the back side of the speaker touches metal? It is posible the metal close to the speaker might cause magnetic interference, but not enough so you would notice in sound quality.
If the speaker and the metal might rub and rattle, then you should put a thin insulator in between. Even if it is a layer of duct tape.
