Re: Old Pictures of Earlies at Work
oops I just made a new thread, basically attempting to start one just like this without realizing it already exists.
Wow…awesome vans!! CLASSIC!
I have some shots of vans I need to dig up from old sign painter trade mags. I'll try to find them all and post them here.

Re: Old Pictures of Earlies at Work
8-door working van! Nice! Wouldn't it be cool if someone on this site realized that one of these old workers was their van...?

Re: Old Pictures of Earlies at Work
I've been looking for an old picture of my van back when it was a Fire Department support vehicle in a small town in Grangeville ID from 1963 - 1993. I didn't have any luck until I placed an article in their local paper asking if anyone had a pic. One guy answered named Clyde, a retired fire fighter, and he said he knew the van and he's looking for a pic.
Another guy named Dick said there was a van like it in a nearby town called Cottonwood, ID. Here's a scanned picture he sent of the Cottonwood FD Van. Not my van or a great scan...going to try and get a better one later.

Re: Old Pictures of Earlies at Work
Speaking of fire department vans, have you guys seen this 66 Ford Econoline Supervan no-door?!
http://www.gatewayclassiccars.com/chicago/1966/ford/econoline-S196.html
It was for sale in Chicago. There are a bunch of hi-resolution photos of this beauty. The interior shows how it was outfitted for the fire department. Very cool! Save those photos before they're gone. There's a video tour of it too.

Re: Old Pictures of Earlies at Work
Brent, I love the idea of searching for an old photo of your van at work! That's a great idea to ask around like that.
I also love the old "bubblegum machine" on the roof in these shots. The blue NY Sportvan I bought a few years ago was originally owned by a NY fire department. But the stock vinyl interior was still in good shape, so I assume it was never decked out like that Econoline. The only indication, besides the Protecto plate, were the (poorly) patched holes in the roof.

Re: Old Pictures of Earlies at Work
VANagain,
I'm hoping to get a picture, but each week that passes makes me think that they aren't going to be able to find one. I'm sure mine wasn't decked out with a fancy paint job like the pictures above, but Clyde said it had a Cherry on top and a ladder etc. I do know, like yours, it had some poorly patched roof holes and a ton of other holes everywhere else! lol
