1966 A100 8in Chop
First time poster, long time lurker. Starting a chop project in the Chicago land area. Van was purchased from a cool dude on this site about two years ago. I've started the 8 inch chop recently.

Just bring us along for the ride with pics! Great work so far! I'm curious to see what will be done in the cab to lower the seats so that you can see out the windshield???

Its gonna be low! Hope you are short
It will be interesting to see how you handle fitting the roof down.
Have you done this kind of thing before?
Looks like you're not scared

My job will be standing around and taking pictures.
I don't think he has done a chop on a van but he has done many customs and restorations
He is not scared.
I think eventually the wheel wells will have to be altered.
Thanks all for the encouraging comments. I hope to have more pictures soon

Re: 1966 A100 8in Chop
I was surprised the roof didn't have to be split ,but I think I see the drip rail comes down nice at the 8" mark? Looking good.

Re: 1966 A100 8in Chop
Now you'll be able to brush the snow off the roof pretty easily!

Re: 1966 A100 8in Chop
You are correct the roof is going to be split about two inches.(down the length of the van)Digz wrote:I was surprised the roof didn't have to be split ,but I think I see the drip rail comes down nice at the 8" mark? Looking good.
The problem is, the roof has many patches and old repairs down the center.(hidden under that bedliner
At one time this van had at least 3 different sunroofs, vents, hatches down the middle.
(possibly to let out different types of smoke!)
I have an extra roof section but its only the front 3 feet,
I wish I had bought a whole complete second roof. I think it would of made the process way easier. Also The roof from an A108 would have worked out well because of its longer length.
Thanks all for posting positive .

Re: 1966 A100 8in Chop
if i'm seeing things correctly it looks like the grill had the center section cut out , ?? what was in there when you bought it ??

Re: 1966 A100 8in Chop
A big thanks to all the people trying to help me find a larger roof section.brazen wrote:Extra roof section
My roof chop is nearly complete/welded so I don't need any more sheet metal.
If anyone is planning to do a chop, ask on this forum first!
The guys here really seem willing to help.
Thanks
