Re: choke to start
likely lack of fuel in starting circuit!!-low fuel level in bowl?? Will it stay running?after initial start on choke?? will it run & drive as normal-without choke?

Re: choke to start
If its a manual choke carb, of course you need to choke it to start cold by design! Getting to stay at idle is a little more tricky...once it warms a little, 5-10 mins gradually push the choke in until it holds idle on its own, set the idle about 600-700 rpm, they usually won't hold the 450 spec shown in the manual on modern gas. After timing, use a dwell meter to check the points...

Re: choke to start
check dwell before the timing,,,, changing the dwell changes the timing......

Re: choke to start
I don't need a choke to start my van,,,,,,,,pump it a couple of times,,,,,give it some gas to keep the RPMs up for a few seconds and I am ready to roll,,,,,,,,also make sure the mixture screw is adjusted on your carburetor,,,,,,,,,but I am running a Carter YF,,,,,,,you got a Rochester Monojet,,,,,,,but can anyone else here start their van without having to pull out the choke ?

Re: choke to start
My choke was disabled when I got my van and Doni said, I am able to start pretty easily with just a few revs.

Re: choke to start
,,,so I would say,,,,,,if you got your electrical system adjusted correctly,,,,it should start with a few pumps of the gas pedal,,,,,,,,,,,however,,,,,I would say the choke weather is coming REAL soon to you people east of the Rocky Mountains,,,,,

Re: choke to start
No, but with my new Daytona (Holley) carb, I pull the choke and turn the key and it starts instant every time without pumping the gas, like fuel injection! Then I pump it a few times and push the choke in half way and go, at first stop sign, I push it in all the way and the idle goes down to normal, about 650-700 on my tach. Same hot or cold weather, albeit, I park it in a heated garage in winter....hehehe....I know, you SoCal guys don't have those issues....what can I say...?donivan65 wrote:I don't need a choke to start my van,,,,,,,,pump it a couple of times,,,,,give it some gas to keep the RPMs up for a few seconds and I am ready to roll,,,,,,,,also make sure the mixture screw is adjusted on your carburetor,,,,,,,,,but I am running a Carter YF,,,,,,,you got a Rochester Monojet,,,,,,,but can anyone else here start their van without having to pull out the choke ?
